Texas Commits in Action – State Semi Finals

The loss of Jaquinden Jackson was too much to overcome today.

GP North Shore 31

Duncanville 17

FINAL

Aledo 45

FB Marshall 42

FINAL

Austin Westlake 14

Denton Guyer 0

Googled the Westlake QB, he has one offer from Fordham.  He seems like a good QB, has size and seems to throw well.  Surprised he doesn't have offers.

Westlake seems to have this one won.

Guyer RB Cobbs also seems like a good player.  Has service academy and Ivy school offers...and Tulane.  He is the valedictorian for Guyer.  Surprised the smaller BCS schools haven’t offered this  guy.  I’m starting to sound like an agent for these guys without big time offers.  They seem to pass the eye test for me watching the game tonight, but what the hell do I know!

He is a good RB. Very good at north-south. Not real shifty but delivers blows as much as he receives them. Tough kid. The Guyer offense was basically relegated to Cobbs to the left, Cobbs to the right after the QB went down. The back up was not so impressive.

Funny how two injuries possibly cost two schools a state title today. Both were QBs.

IMO, Duncanville wins their game if Jackson isn't injured.

Crazy to think a freshman QB was thrown into the state title game for Guyer.  he definitely looked young, you would think a big school would have a backup with a few more years on him.

So we could say Cobbs is Kyle Porteresque?

Well, ladies and gents, its been another year of tracking our recruits during their high school performances. This is the fourth or fifth year I've done this at HornSports.  I hope you've enjoyed it each week as much as I have.

When I was a kid, I had the pleasure of seeing Earl Campbell play a high school football game. I was in total awe. Later, I would learn that he would be playing for my beloved Horns. I knew when I heard that that he would be one for the history books at Texas. I guess from all that, I learned its good to see these things coming and seeing them come to their potential at DKR on Saturdays.

But it all starts on Friday nights.

Didn't Westlake use three different QB's situationally this season?

Earl and Simms were as good HS RB S as I ever saw. Earl was a very good LB in HS.and played  a few downs there at Texas.

I remember watching all 3 Cambell brothers playing together at UT. Remember the Bluebonnet bowl against Pitt and their Hayward running back.

Agree, Duncanville wins easy with him at QB. Be that said, that FR QB played very well considering it was his first start in HS.
