Really don't think that there was a true "home run" hire out there. And, from what I read about Pierce, I'm not sure that we could have done much better, if at all.
I agree.  I said that this hire was much more difficult than the Augie hire because there wasn't another "Augie" out there.  Hopefully, we have found a guy that will be here for a long time and bring success back to the program.  I didn't get the feeling that he was all "coach speak."  He seemed to be extremely genuine.  I think there are going to be a lot of folks that are surprised with what he can do here.

if and when that miserable series is resumed (hopefully long after i've pushed up my last daisy), every one of those media money-siphons who has moaned about the loss of that miserable series better be front-row at every game until they join me in the daisy push-up spectacular.

you know that won't happen.  if even one of them ever attends a game it will be time to stop the presses and order more ink.  that and order a wake-up call for said siphon at contest conclusion.

I agree with you, joey. I believe Pierce is genuine and knowledgeable. When you think about it, it seems that Rice's most recent success coincided with his tenure there. I haven't looked it up, but if memory serves...and mine may be rapidly fading.

I think Pierce may be everything we need. I'm not certain there was a flashy (my preferred adjective) hire out there. If there was, I can't think of one. Augie had flash and substance. I think Pierce has substance, and hope that Texas fans will give him the benefit of the doubt. If not, I will be very disappointed in our fans, and when Mama's not happy, ain't nobody happy.

I love Charlie and Shaka, and believe David will fit right in. Let's go, Coach Pierce, joey is ready to do pbp next year, if called upon, and we are all ready to cheer the guys on.

Hook 'em!

I like the hire and I love the attitude.

Pierce's philosophy is one that gains its own momentum once everything is in place.

I would like to see Texas baseball compete in every game. By that I mean to always take the field with the proper attitude, play excellent defense, make the most out of the rotation, place pressure on the opponents' defense by aggressive, smart base running and to play the best players regardless of name or age. These things are controllable immediately and do not necessitate having more talent than your opponents. The talent will come once Texas HS players see how they are going to play.

First we need to be scrappy, aggressive and smart.

Conference and national success will follow.

Random thoughts:

1) I watched the first 2 games of the series between Arizona and Coastal Carolina, but missed the last game (darn it ) because I thought it was tonight! I had a gut feeling after watching about 3 games by Coastal C. that they were going to win the whole thing. They didn't look the part. I don't believe they were the most talented, but they just kept finding ways to win. No matter the circumstance, they never quit.

2) How does #1 relate to Texas? I think Pierce can make these guys believe in themselves again. If they don't buy in, they can pound sand. He wanted the Texas job. He waited 12 days to find out about it, and he never played any games. I respect that.

3) Oh, I wish I had put money on CC back when I first had a gut feeling they were going to win it all. I would be buying a new TV right now cuz mine is getting ready to bite the dust!!

4) I have a feeling we are going to see good solid baseball, and high school coaches that want their players to come to The University.

Hook 'em!

Just now getting around to watching the full PC. Very interesting end to the PC. Sean Allen was just recently hired away from Tulane's staff by Alabama. Pierce sounds like he's still going after him. That would be a big win for Texas if they can get him on staff.

Yes, it would. I liked his answer. It was appropriately noncommittal.

Genuine is the perfect description for Coach Pierce. He is without pretense and no-nonsense. I really like him.

Hook 'em, David!

This would be big. Now let's hope Tulane doesn't go after Allen for their head coaching gig.

I wouldn't mind this at all.

Hearing that Pierce will make a reported base salary of $791,600. Haven't been able to confirm yet, but this sounds about right.
