Assistant coach hires are gonna be interesting.

So we lost Barrera to the draft and that's it, right? Not including some the '16 recruits of course.

So essentially all we lost was 1 starter (Culbreth), 1 bullpen arm (Duke), and starting 1B/C (Barrera)?

There might be some attrition though, not sure. I've heard Pierce is a no nonsense type guy, so it wouldn't surprise me if there's a few players shown the door.

It will be interesting to watch.

It depresses me that there were so many UT baseball fans (and onlookers) who believed the new coaching announcement would be made at any time other than as close to the last pitch in the championship game as possible. I thought we had a much more knowledgeable fan base. How many supporters of the sport will be watching the championship games as opposed to the first game of a regional? Or even the first game of the CWS?

College baseball has no bigger stage than the CWS. Most college baseball fans will have some level of interest in the final championship game. On the day of the final game of the season, when the championship was about to be won or lost, there were three teams being mentioned on the ESPN crawler - Arizona, Coastal Carolina and Texas.

All that being said, if Pierce doesn't win at least eight games next year, I'm predicting people will question whether he was the right guy for the job.

With all due respect Randolph, and I do mean that, I don't think collegiate baseball hires move the needle much at all, even if you called time during Game 3 of the Coastal Carolina/Arizona game and announced the move from home plate.  It matters to us as UT supporters and college baseball diehards around the nation, but honestly, the Patrick Hudson news this week was probably viewed as more significant across the nation.  Hook em!

PIerce Press Conference

• Been waiting to get back home and do this: (Hook Em!)
• Hope you can accept a slow talking Texas, because that's what you've got.
• Appreciative of the process.
• Recognized Coaches Garrido and Gustafson, hopes he can follow what they've built
• Refers to his wife as the QB of their family.  Daughter is getting married in Dripping Springs.  Son will receive his masters from Tulane.
• Thanks Rice Head Coach Wayne Graham.  Has much respect for him and the Rice program.
• Special to come back to not only Texas, but to be at The University of Texas.
• Coaching at the high school level helped him understand what these coaches do and the regulations that they have to adhere to.
• Attends the THSCA Meetings in Waco every year, and that will continue.
• "I coach baseball, but I really coach people and baseball is my platform.  It is my opportunity to see young men grow as the day they walk in and become first rounders in all aspects of life."
• We want to be successful in life, the classroom and on the field. 
• We will support all sports and hope for them to be successful as well.
• I'm really excited at cultivating the relationships with our alumni and former players.
• Our staff is something that will be molded shortly.
• I've been fortunate to coach pitching and hitting and do it at the Division 1 level.

I absolutely agree, but even when you are in a sport with a small stage, you still pick the largest stage you can to get your program before those interested in the sport.

If I was going to hire a track coach, I wouldn't make the announcement at a run-of-the-mill dual meet, I would do it during the U.S. Olympic T&F trials. It's not always about moving the needle a lot. It is about moving the needle as much as you can, whenever you can. Just like you release bad news on a Friday afternoon, so it gets lost in the weekend news cycle and people have moved on by Monday.

One of my big complains about UT athletics over the past few years has been the bloat, the laziness, the ineptitude and lack of a commitment to excellence among those collecting the paychecks. Misspelling "Texas" in the media guide, year before last, the the mishandling of the San Angelo coaches clinic, etc, etc. It is infuriating. The constant laziness and lack of attention to small details stands in glaring contrasts to winning organizations that understand that little details matter.

I was hoping Perrin would get the deal done in a timely manner, make a solid choice and manage the media. Arguably, I don't know the timing of the hiring could have been handled better, I don't know there was a better choice and the cacophony of bewailing coming from the AAS and other media outlets made it rather clear to me, they weren't getting enough real info and were just going with the rumor du jour, which means the leaks out of Bellmont are far fewer than under Deloss.

I give Mike Perrin an "A" for handling the entire process from the ending of Augie's stewardship to announcing David Pierce's hiring.

First series loss I'm placing the blame on joeyway. I haven't figured out how I'm going to spin this, but it's coming. 

Then again, we might not lose another series ever.
