That article is not how I have heard it went down. Nonetheless, he's not a candidate. Moving on.

The natives are getting restless-and nosey. Gotta have interviews away from Austin and in neutral sites now. Has anyone activated flight tracker yet?

Personally, I would prefer the next head coach not to pushing 60 years old as Mainieri and Casey will be soon.  Why not go the direction of a younger coach who can grow with the program?  That would be my preference.
Augie was 57 when we hired him I believe. Won us 2 national titles and made 8 CWS.

You're way behind.  Plane was up here today. :)

That's what I mean, joey. Time for flight tracker.

If you were to take a wild guess, how much longer do you expect this to take?

I would say it's wrapped up in the next couple of weeks.  Here's how I see it, and mind you I could be completely off base.

Texas has met with Savage.  If he was "THE guy" we would have already inked the contract.

Instead, we have talked to Mainieri, (albeit by his request,) and Casey.

I also think that there still may be a dark horse in the mix.  I don't have any idea who that may be, but at this point it would not surprise me.

Now, it could very easily be something that's done tomorrow, but I could also see Texas waiting to announce until during the CWS, (which begins in earnest on Saturday.)  Not sure why I think that, but it seems that would be something that's done to get the news out there when there are eyes on the college baseball world.

I'm just not sure how or when this all plays out.  That is highly dependent upon who else we want to interview, whether they're still playing in Omaha, and whether we were blown away by Casey.  I don't see Savage as the guy, otherwise it would be done by now, in my opinion.

I've read Casey's bio, and it's impressive. He would be a great hire.

I'd rather have the DBU coach, Heefner. Seems to me like he's got good relationships with TXHS baseball coaches based on their results. Not that Casey isn't an accomplished HC.

Heefner is not a fit at Texas. From what I've been told he prefers where he is, and the faith based campus. I like the guy, but the interest just isn't there and I don't fault anyone for that.

And it's coming out this morning that Casey is off the list now. Whether he was actually offered or not is not clear, but it appears that he wants to stay in Oregon, where he's lived his entire life. Haven't got confirmation of this, but it appears to be the case from multiple reports.

I wasn't certain from reading his bio if he really wanted to keep coaching. A year ago, he wanted to get into administration (I believe AD). We aren't looking for a 3 to 5 year hire. We are looking long-term.

Anyway, read his bio, I think he will stop coaching within the next 5 years.

Hook 'em!

Okay

It's sounding more like UCLA's Savage will be the guy.

Just wondering how many of these guys who say they are not interested in Texas have actually had any contact with Texas?
