That said, LSU's Mainieri is the name I was hearing last night. I didn't want it to be the one to put it out there. There are too many ways that "first" info can derail the interview/hiring process.
Not sure what's happening with Savage, but this certainly appears to be a two horse race down the stretch.

Mainieri would be a great hire if only to make ol Snippy Skippy Bertman defecate his underwear. Seriously, PM's last two stops, Notre Dame and LSU so wouldn't be bad.
For those of you that think the Texas job isn't plum, you are thinking short-term. Over the long-term, the Texas job is one of the best, if not the best out there. Four coaches over the entire history of the program, a talent-rich state, good fan support, Slim's hat, one of the most recognizable names in college baseball, virtually unlimited resources...really, do I need to go on.

Java, ma'am I respect your passion for all things UT but invoking Slim's hat? We want people to not be scared to come coach here. The radioactive glow from that thing caused an entire tailgate to shut down.

If you want to know how big the Texas job is just watch the reaction of other programs. Coaches are getting raises when they might not even be targets. That doesn't happen when other jobs open up.
