Yes, Vince and Colt were better than anything we have (right now).

But never under GD/Mack did we have the type of QB depth that CFS/Watson will enjoy come 2016/2017

Colt went down in 2006 and 2009, costing us a conference title and Natty shot in '06 and a Natty in '09

Had Vince gone down in 2004 or 5 . . .nada really behind him.

Brewster had to talk Mack into taking Vince. And then Mack had to be talked into taking him as a QB instead of an athlete.

Brewster is why Vince came to Texas.

That story has been seriously overplayed. . .. 

GD always thought Vince would be OK as a QB. . . . .it was more discussion than sale job.

Mack did what he does with most recruits, he closed Vince. . . .and his Momma. . . .I get that it is popular to try and paint Mack in the worst light possible.

Mack landed Vince. . .GD developed Vince and he was seriously raw when he got to TEXAS. . .. . 

It damn sure wasn't the OC for the Titans who turned him into the Rookie of the year and a pro bowl QB.

What,  Nordgren wouldn't have beaten USC?     i get your point, but in 01 we had Simms, Major and Mock. That was pretty solid.

Some other depth during that era which could be mentioned were Greg Cicero, Adam Dunn (not sure if recruited by Mack GD or by Mackovic....also Jevan Snead was a solid recruit as well to add depth...

If you're looking for a Mack hater, I'm not that guy. I posted what I've heard.

I credit Mack for letting Vince be Vince instead of trying to mold him into something he'd never be. GD did do a great job of developing VY to the point where his arm had to be respected. Once he achieved that, it was lights out.

I have a deep respect for the recruiter that Brewster was. I've just heard too many stories about that guy.

Dunn was a standout quarterback at New Caney High School in Texas. After graduating from high school, the Cincinnati Reds drafted Dunn in the second round (50th overall) of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. Dunn had previously committed to play football for the University of Texas at Austin. The Reds and Dunn agreed to a deal which allowed him to play minor league baseball during the summer, and return to Austin in August to prepare for football. Dunn redshirted his freshman season and served as a backup to Major Applewhite. When star recruit Chris Simms committed to Texas, Dunn was asked to move to the tight end position. As a result, he left the Longhorns to concentrate on baseball in 1999.

Avery Davis with a huge jump in the 247 rankings. He's now the #100 player in the nation and #4 dual threat QB. 

Like I said earlier in this thread, he's the most underrated QB in the '17 class and it won't surprise me a bit if he turns out to be the best collegiate QB from Texas.
