Swoopes playing time in the bowl game?

Sorry, the other Swoopes post was not posted when I started this.

Given that it's unlikely that Ash will play competitive football again and McCoy is a senior and his last game was less than stellar, how much playing time will and should Swoopes get against Oregon? Obviously, we all want to win the game but just wondering how we balance winning the game (I know, a very tall order to begin with) and looking to the future?

Is Mack going to be so determined to go out with one final win (we all want a win) in addition to his loyalty to McCoy that he is not going to go out of his way to help the new coaching staff with getting Swoopes additional playing time when the opportunity presents itself? One could make the argument that Swoopes gives us a better chance of winning the game from the get-go; especially given the extra practice time he should be getting during bowl preparation.

I think we start the game with McCoy but we should look for opportunities to get Swoopes in the game sooner rather than later and not just save him for mop-up duty. We burned his shirt, let's try to get some value, albeit very little, out of that while we can.

Thoughts?

...it's ok my friend, we are all in this together. however, my very same sentiments... just reinterpreted. should mack brown leave case in this game.... we shall indeed loose. texas, shall need to think out of the box...

I think Mack is too narcissistic to put Swoopes in. He'll think about the Oregon game as a last win for himself and leave Case in regardless of his underperformance. What is Swoopes to Brown next season-- absolutely nothing. Ironically Case has no future in football and Swoopes is just emerging. That poor kid got so screwed over this year. But that's a different thread all together. I hope I'm wrong though.

Mack has always been about rewarding seniority. He thinks the team is a union and if McCoy can walk, he will play. I am just so happy to see him go, I just wish Major was calling the shots, that would be interesting.

I'd like to see him get a few snaps, but he's not ready for this game.

I posted this on another board couple of days ago:

Unlike most fans, I think we've handled his situation correctly. His pre-season injury really set him back and he wasn't 100% until the ISU game. Obviously, it was not possible to put him in there. ou was not a good situation for him either, even tho we held a nice lead pretty much through out.

When he finally got to play, I was looking for incremental progress from him.

1 can he read and call the play correctly coming in from the sideline.

2 can he manage the huddle.

3 can he get the team lined up correctly and the ball snapped in time.

I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but in the first couple of games he struggled a little with just these basics. As the season wore on, he got more comfortable and actually flashed a couple of times.

He's still got a ways to go and isn't ready for significant time in the bowl. I'd be nice if we had such a lead that he could take a few snaps.

Hook 'em.

Swoops should play the whole game........Swoops might surprise all of us fans and the Football Nation.

If Swoopes came in in the first half and lit it up, it would show everyone what a dumba$$ Mack Brown actually is.

Can't have that. (Just so you know Mack - we already know what an idiot you are)

Unless you want to see the score be 55-10 Swoopes is gonna need to play.

Mack will want to win this and McCoy is more ready to play the college game then 2*Swoopes. I think Jerrod Heard maybe more ready than Swoopes.

Seems most believe the practice "reports" about Swoopes and not what we've seen with our own eyes. The kid's not ready and Case gives us a MUCH better chance to win (or at least hang with UO).

The little bit of good it might do him going into the Spring may be outweighed by the harm resulting from a thrashing. He hasn't shown a command of our offense or even the zone read.

With a good Spring and Summer, he should be ready to give us some solid minutes next season.

Our only shot at UO, like Baylor, is to keep pounding them up the gut and try to hit some play action deep.

Swoopes NEEDS to play. Every rep counts in QB development. I'm still mad at Mack. My ideal situation:

Case starts. We're down 35-0 at half.

Insert Swoopes in 2nd half. Our D make adjustments.

We come back and win 41-38.

Mack wins last game and answers questions about Swoopes' lack of playing time during the season.

Mack reminds me of Lloyd Carr in many ways.

These could be seen in live fire drills against the #1 defense. An entire season of eligibility lost for about 25 meaningless plays.

That is insane to think a true freshman could put up 41 pts

Yep, I agree he is extremely raw. I think he has a ton of potential, but has not really had any chance to really show or work on it in a game. I really wanted him to keep the shirt, but once it came off I thought we should have seen him a whole lot more.

Who knows what Mack will do now, since it is his final game.
