Sumlin

Does he still get job at USC?
Right now, it looks to me like they should keep Coach O but for some reason I don't think Haden does it.

Winning some games as an interim coach does not include all the year around responsibilities of being a head coach.

Ed Orgeron failed miserably at Ole Miss.

IMO, USC cannot afford to gamble on him beyond this season.

usc would be crazy to lose coach o. however, they have been targeting sumlin for awhile now.

last time i heard it was 5 years for 5 mill/yr. plus, he hates college station. can you blame him?

Orgeron is a guy Sumlin (or whoever) needs to keep on the staff at whatever cost it takes, but hes proven already he cant lead a program long term

Couldn't agree with you more.

Agreed, if the same happened at Texas(haha, keep your breakfast in, i know Deloss doesnt have the balls to fire anyone, much less do it mid season) you cant put your $ on Eddy O to be your full time HC. IF i were the next HC at USC, i would definitely keep him on the staff, he has done a great job.

orgeron is shady as they come...USC asking him to stay after what they just went through is not a good thing

USC hiring Oregeron would be like Texas handing things over to Applewhite.
Maybe you can expand on this? I don't see the similarities, except for the OC taking over the reigns. Applewhite actually played here and is an alum, Oregeron went to Northwestern. Maybe you are meaning the off the field issues, but let's be fair - Applewhite screwed a coed after a bowl game, Oregeron beat a woman. These are not in the same neighborhood.

I know I sound like an Applewhite apologist, that's not my intent I don't condone cheating, but I just want to understand the context of your comment.

As for Sumlin, I think the Oregeron has gotten his current players to play for him - probably because anybody was an upgrade from Kiffen - but I don't know that he could recruit and run a successful program at USC. I think Sumlin is the way for them to go and kinda hope it works out for him because you know CS can't be an easy town for his family to live in.

The meaning that both USC and Texas should expect to get better candidates than Oregeron or Applewhite to hire.

Agree Sumlin's their best option. But make no mistake, Ed O is an excellent recruiter ("nat'l recruiter of the year in '04). Remember all those top classes USC was pulling in under Carrol up to '05, then later under Kiffin?

Much of that was Coach O's doings.

The man can recruit and he can coach.

Not sure I'd hand him the keys to something like USC, but, if it weren't for him being interim HC, I'd keep him around if I were SC's next HC (that's what Carrol did). But with all that's happened and the bond he's built with those kids, new coach may well need to clean house. I wouldn't blame whoever's our next HC if Coach O were free and UT HC snapped him up, if off-field issues don't preclude.

Yeah, that was an ignorant statement on my part about his recruting abilities. Also sounds like he is a Muschamp kind of guy in that he knows defense and can pull that phase together but his offensive astuteness is lacking. I know coaches have a tendency for one side of the ball so you can usually offset that with a good coordinator.
