I believe it was mentioned before, but I'll say it again.

This whole situation is the equivalent of the hot girl everybody wants to date. She looks nice, she dresses nice, and sexy. Nobody looks at the girl with glasses in the back of the class who's the Honor Society President. Yet when you see her dressed up and spend time with her you realize that she's more amazing in ways that can't be seen at first glance. I'm not sure if Strong will succeed here or not, but we all owe the man the respect to show us what he's got. He's got some skins on the wall (albeit not as many as guys like Saban/Meyer).

If you want that hot chick, go right ahead. Me? I'm a man of substance and I'm willing to give Coach Strong an opportunity to show me if he can handle the Texas role.

What I find funny is that a lot of people are basing the Strong hire and saying things like "this is the mentality of accepting mediocrity" or something to that tune.

The reason that cracks me up is

STRONG IS THE ANTI MACK BROWN

This guy is a football coach not a coddler or CEO. This guy brings tough teams. He made Louisville, a basketball school, competitive and relevant on a national stage. I have no idea if he will be a great hire. No one does and the same would have went for any of the guys we could have hired.

Whoever keeps saying he is a bad fit never seem to say why he is a bad fit. I welcome opposing opinions, that is fine and honestly refreshing to have a good discussion. Just give me a reason why.

Strong has a stronger background than Saban before Saban got hired by LSU not to mention many other coaches that are now considered "big splashes".

Look at Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, USC (multiple times), etc. etc. and see their history of hiring the big splash. First off they generally don't. Yet those schools are also considered to be among the "Joneses" as well.

Another thread theme stolen before I was going to start it. . . though I was going to use sizzle and steak. . .

It's makes for a great "presentation" at the table to have sizzle but who cares if the steak sucks?

Great post and I agree. Saban would have been great, but he was always a short term solution. If he got hired, he'd also have too big expectations. One slip and this fan base would go crazy. He'd face teams like Sugar Bowl OU week in and week out. Saban was the sexy hire, but there was no guarantee that he'd succeed here either.

It is like the Librarian at a large County Library with glasses....ask if she will show you a book in the S Section of books (she has read them all) so please be my coach! Did you ever see the Movie Payton Place. Ok we have a winner.

I haven't but I'll check it out. Thanks for the rec.

We were served a $hit sandwich and told to like it.

My prediction - someone other than Patterson is going to be looking for someone other than Strong in the next 5 years.

Why is this a $hit sandwhich? We were going to be told to like whoever was hired because we don't work for the University. There was no situation where ALL the fans would be completely happy. Not even with Saban. We have no idea what product Strong will put on the Texas field so it's premature to say what you said.
