Strong reaching out to current staff

Look folks we can't go off the deep end every time somebody post something.

If you think Patterson is the right man for the job then trust his judgement.

If you already doubt Patterson then you might need to buy another bottle

Of your favorite beverage and drink heavily. I am going to trust the process.

Texas source says Louisville's Charlie Strong has reached out to Longhorn staff to do homework,

perhaps lay groundwork for new job. #perhaps
Here is Bohl's actual tweet.

First, I will start with the idea that Bohls (and the other media guy mentioned above who might have been his source) were not lying or making something up. Strong probably did "reach out" to people he knew in the coaching profession who know about working in Austin.

Bohls and/or the other guy reported this and then made the jump to suggest this might be a sign Strong is already preparing to take the job.

The jump is where Bohls gets it wrong. Which would not be the first time.

There is a much better explanation. Let's say you were contacted about a job in another part of the country, somewhere you have never lived or worked. What would you do? One of the things you might do is call someone you know who has lived/worked there to get their impressions. This is common sense. It is normal human behavior. Especially when its a big career move that is contemplated.

Once Strong was contacted and an interview arranged, he probably called whoever he knew in the coaching circles to get the lay of the land in Austin. Or, maybe he even did this after meeting with Patterson instead of before (but, again, common sense says before).

Either way, this is a better and more reasonable interpretation of Strong's "reaching out."

Strong would be a solid hire, and though I dont think Patterson would do it, Id applaud him for running his show instead of joining a long standing parade of yes men and shameless *** kissers.

There is an interesting gap in the varying perceptions. The WVU poster + his Louisville buddies think Strong would not make a lateral move to Austin, and will hold out for the upgrade to Florida or Miami.

While, here, we see Strong as a 2nd tier hire. Or possibly even 3rd tier.

If perception is reality then there's your proof.
Sadly as I like Will. . .the Florida job will be open this time next year most likely. . .

Florida is a step up from Louisville and a slight step down from Austin . ..Miami is a step up from Louisville but not a top 20 job . .

If you don't think Strong would change the culture . ..no sense discussing this further ..

They were discussing Dantoni to TEXAS during the Rose Bowl. . .

Saban (never thought he was coming anyway) Fisher Strong Mora even Briles (started the season anti-briles. . I've warmed to him but still concerned he couldn't handle the bright lights. . .this isn't Waco). .I can get excited about any of them. . .

I am concerned about a poster here who said Strong runs a very disorganized program. . .that would be a concern but each have warts . . .

What if it is Strong and he comes here and wins a several CCs and a NC? What if he comes in an competes immediately? What will people say about this "horrible hire" then? Will people still want to burn down Bellmont and crucify Patterson?
If Strong were to be able to come in and win, than I imagine that these wonderful folks here would be man/woman enough to respond appropriately.

While I don't think of him as a horrible hire, I do find that in terms of caliber he is a step down compared to Saban, Fisher and John H. Personally, I think Briles is in the same category as Strong, but his one advantage are his ties to Texas high schools and recruiting.

I definitely agree though that he is by no means a horrible hire. I would not be upset if he came.

Why would Strong not be annouced of he was the hire? He played his bowl game. He has no reason for this to be delayed. I smell smokescreen.
