Texas source says Louisville's Charlie Strong has reached out to Longhorn staff to do homework,
perhaps lay groundwork for new job. #perhaps
Here is Bohl's actual tweet.
First, I will start with the idea that Bohls (and the other media guy mentioned above who might have been his source) were not lying or making something up. Strong probably did "reach out" to people he knew in the coaching profession who know about working in Austin.
Bohls and/or the other guy reported this and then made the jump to suggest this might be a sign Strong is already preparing to take the job.
The jump is where Bohls gets it wrong. Which would not be the first time.
There is a much better explanation. Let's say you were contacted about a job in another part of the country, somewhere you have never lived or worked. What would you do? One of the things you might do is call someone you know who has lived/worked there to get their impressions. This is common sense. It is normal human behavior. Especially when its a big career move that is contemplated.
Once Strong was contacted and an interview arranged, he probably called whoever he knew in the coaching circles to get the lay of the land in Austin. Or, maybe he even did this after meeting with Patterson instead of before (but, again, common sense says before).
Either way, this is a better and more reasonable interpretation of Strong's "reaching out."
