Each week, Marian Hinton is going to offer a global perspective on the State of the Program in Charlie Strong's first season. The first edition is, STANDING TALL

that's a good piece. lot of coaches talk-the-talk. most of them actually. Charlie ain't f-----' around. he's walking-the-walk and then some. as a fan base, we've collectively griped about accountability for years. looks like we've by-God got some now.

and i'd add lost in the suspension head count is the fact that 70-something guys apparently don't find the rules that hard to live by.

I don't like Bomani Jones at all but I think he said it best on twitter last night.

@bomani_jones: strong’s only job this year is to wash all the mack brown off the program. he’s clearly doing it with a pressure washer.

Outstanding article.

It's easy to just look at the suspensions of two starters as a negative effect on the field, but sometimes the long-term outcomes outweigh an immediate loss.

Strong is doing it his way and doesn't care what the fan base thinks. That's very important.

So far, we are going completely on blind trust of CS.  We have no idea what these kids have done wrong, except the 2 accused of Rape.  How do we know he is not carrying things too far?

I agree that this can have positive effects...it can also make elite players out there say this guy is over the top, I will go play for Sumlin, or Miles, or Stoops, or Meyer or Fishcher or Saban or Briles or Kingsbury...or name the coach

Other than Hammad, not one player has left on their own volition.

I agree. Short and sweet. I've always been a fan of Brown, at least personally, but Strong (at this point) appears to be exactly the type of guy this program needed.

Every new football coach taking over a program that has fallen on hard times has a playbook that they yank out and it says;

1. Blame everything wrong on the previous coach in the first year (run players off, get tough on the ones that stay)

2. Make sure you win more games in your first year than the last coach

3. Let everyone know you did that while cleaning up the mess.

For those of you doubting that there is a good reason behind the suspensions, the other players know exactly what is going on.  Don't kid yourselves, and don't blow smoke at the rest of us.  If you think they don't, you need a tough dose of reality.  To a man, they support Charlie Strong.  That is all I need to see.

Agreed. You have to build trust.
