Source: Patterson turns down Texas to stay at ASU

Luck, Luck, Luck. Turning down Texas to stay at ASU? Wow.

For the record, I turned down the AD job at UT also.

Be prepared for a bunch of stories from "sources" that say UT begged person "x" or person "y" to take the job but UT was turned down. I can believe Bowlsby would have passed on the UT job. I don't believe Patterson was considered over Luck.

Luck has played college football, played pro football, a degree from UT (Law), worked for the NFL, has been on a university Board of Governors (WVa), etc, etc.

Other than a possible business connection with someone on the search committee, what even makes Steve Patterson a blip on the radar screen for the UT AD job? If Patterson has been named AD can anyone believe the faithful would have said anything except "who"?

I believe that Luck was the choice all along. They probably talked terms with Patterson and came to an informal agreement but no official offer was ever made. The official offer was most likely made to Luck and accepted. This was/is Patterson's way of saving face. Remember a similar thing happened with Gary Barnett prior to the announcement that Mack was the next head coach. I would expect an announcement on Luck in the very near future now that this is out.

RT @kbohls: UT prez spokesman Gary Susswein denies FoxSports report that ASU Steve Patterson offered, declined UT AD job. "No decisions, offers made."

Yet another example of why there needs to be a complete house cleaning in Bellmont. They have lost control of the message when it comes to the search for the new AD. The search for the new HC will be even a bigger debacle. Deloss did a lot for the program. As it is, I can't think of a single employee within the UT athletic department that could be considered at the top of their field.

If it comes out of or near Bellmont. Its a lie.

I doubt he was offered anything. Probably was told Texas was going with Luck and is now trying to save face.

I doubt very seriously Patterson was even offered the job. Turn down double the salary to stay in Tempe? Yeah, right. Luck has been and is the man.

But, if you can't take the heat you need to stay out of the kitchen!

I'll wait to hear what mcphaul says before I believe that. I'm not sure why we would want that guy. I am trying to think of which asu sport is good?

Sure its possible that we didnt offer Patterson and its possible he is trying to save face.

Its also possible that Patterson was the first choice for AD but turned down the job. Some of us arrogantly assume no body will can say "no" to Texas. Lets get all the facts first.

How can we have two offers out at the same time?.....what if the second guy had accepted the offer? I am not so sure we offered Patterson if we offered Luck.

Luck was offered before Patterson.
Maybe im being technical but doesnt that statement mean that Patterson was offered after Luck? If so why?

We never heard that Patterson was even interviewed, just Luck, Maryland AD(maybe), Bowlsby(who said No) and maybe the ND AD and Ou AD.

So far at least a couple of people that we would at least like to interview have declined. Is it possible some candidates view whats going on with Powers as a shaky situation and are hesitant. There is a lot of uncertainty at Texas at the top.

I do not think Patterson was ever offered the job. PR spin potentially.
