He would be a World Series Game 7 walk-off drop the mic grand slam hire. I would literally take him over Saban if we had our choice between the two.Mike Tomlin would be a homerun IMO.

You're assuming that Harsin and Diaz were his first calls out of the box.The assistant coaches and coordinators Mack has hired has left many wanting. Its like he would rather hire someone for their potential instead of their actual proven work. IMHO, there is no way we should have settled for Harsin or Applewhite as OCs or Diaz for the DC. There were much better options but, it seems Mack wanted to thought of as a genius who discovered new coaches instead of hiring proven ones. Maybe he knew he could "bully" them and he couldn't do the same w/ a more experienced crew.
Pretty sure Mack went after Justin Wilcox before him and was turned down because he wouldn't let Wilcox bring a grad asst to coach LBs. There's also the infamous Teryl Austin who was said to have accepted the job or been very close at one point. It was only after both of them turned us down that we inquired about Diaz. And there might have been other names thrown around, but those two definitely were ahead of him. You're assuming that Harsin and Diaz were his first calls out of the box.
Reportedly, especially w/DC, Mack had to go down the list.
I believe you're right. Chryst was Mack's 1st choice as CO-OC if I remember correctly.Pretty sure Mack went after Justin Wilcox before him and was turned down because he wouldn't let Wilcox bring a grad asst to coach LBs. And this wasn't the only position we missed on our top target. The o-line coach was going to be Addazio who ended up getting the HC job at Temple instead of coming here and then we went after Searles.
I don't know if Harsin was the first choice, but it was definitely between him and Chryst from Wisconsin. I think Chryst was the top choice, but he wanted no part of being a co-OC with Major so we ended up with Harsin. I still remember Lance Zerlein blasting Mack for choosing Harsin over Chryst.
Not sure where the Tomlin possible candidate has come from, but common sense would tell you he would have zero interest. His last collegiate coaching job was with University of Cincinnati as DB coach, but quickly jumped to join the Tampa Bay staff in 2001. I don't think a HC in the NFL who has reached the mountain top in the NFL and has had no head coaching experience at the collegiate level (or interest in that position) should be considered a realistic candidate.Mike Tomlin would be a homerun IMO.
Saban, Tomlin, and Chucky are my top three, in that order.Mike Tomlin would be a homerun IMO.
What is AVI? (Thanks for putting up w/my slowness.)
Oh... that would be one's AVATAR.That photo under your username to the left.
True dat. Yet It is quite picturesque. No pictures in the Good Book, eh, my friend? ;-)
Your hung up on terms. Be hung up on hooters.Oh... that would be one's AVATAR.
Should'a guessed it.
Thx, man.
Even after he got embarassed by Navy?Talked with some Wiscy alums this weekend and they want Chryst back desperately.
Damn, Houston and St. Louis are getting seriously hosed with those 2 contracts.I have had a hard time wrapping my head around an NFL head coach leaving what has always been considered the pinnacle of coaching to coach in college. Looking at this list of salaries, it would be a 2-4.5 million dollar raise, for the names being mentioned, depending on the 8-10 mil price tag tossed around. That makes it a little easier to believe.
