Something I Left Out of The Crossfire

You're assuming that Harsin and Diaz were his first calls out of the box.
Reportedly, especially w/DC, Mack had to go down the list.
Mack passed on Jerry Gray as D/C and that was the mistake that will cost Mack his job in the end.

Gray might have left for the NFL regardless but Mack really dicked him around with the offer and terms. Pretty clear he didn't want him. I would hope by now everyone realizes Mack saw Jerry as a threat and that's what motivated him. Not the chance to bring in not only a talented defensive coach but one with some new ideas and one from the league that kids would absolutely find pretty compelling as a recruiting tool.

Mack's biggest fear today is not really losing his job as much as someone like Saban comes in and starts to routinely run the table, proving what underperformers we've been to a large degree. That drives him nuts. One of the reasons I think he wants DKR's record is so he has something permanent to hold on to. My opinion of course.

Hopefully everyone out there is aware of Mack Brown's egotistical, selfish attitude. That is all.

Oh, I think Mack would be OK if his replacement won a lot of games and titles...as long as Mack was involved in picking the guy, and that guy spent a lot of time thanking Mack for building the program, and so on. Saban isn't that guy.

Mack could have matched Tennessee's offer with Jerry as the D/C and Jerry clearly wanted to be back at UT. You are exactly right that Mack feared Jerry as a threat so UT fans get stuck with several more years of mediocrity.

Mack's ego is guilty for putting us in the position we are currently in...he is as narcissistic as they come.

Not sure where the Tomlin possible candidate has come from, but common sense would tell you he would have zero interest. His last collegiate coaching job was with University of Cincinnati as DB coach, but quickly jumped to join the Tampa Bay staff in 2001. I don't think a HC in the NFL who has reached the mountain top in the NFL and has had no head coaching experience at the collegiate level (or interest in that position) should be considered a realistic candidate.
I don't get all the love for Tomlin, usually the guys that criticize Gruden...want Tomlin. Mystification at it's finest
