That I should have expounded on a little bit more was the future coaching staff.

We all are aware of the perception of that the SEC is the conference you play in if you want to go to the next level.

That is not lost on the certain factions that are working hard to reshape our athletic department, culture & perception.

My sources believe that an all star staff made up of former NFL and the best of college football coaches & recruiters, that we can sell you will be coached up by some of the best in the business. Our message will be that we will get you to the next level.

I'm also going to reiterate. that if the Saban deal falls through, I don't think we will offer Muschamp or Briles before we go after another high profiled candidate. When the news gets out concerning the contract we offered Saban, I have been lead to believe that there are some coaches in the NFL that are going to make a call and throw the hat in the ring.

thanks for the update. our coaching staff and the rest of CFB needs to beat the SEC and change that perception.

Thanks Mcp-hopefully we end up with a coach and ad who are not afraid to use all the resources and advantages UT offers. For whatever reason Mack has failed to do this.

Your post implies that Mack is scared to use all Texas' resources. I don't know what this means. Care to expound?
In my opinion, which may be different that the OP, is that he took so long to hire all of the staff allowed under NCAA rules because he was so sure that the rules were going to be changed. It put Texas at a clear disadvantage and the results of that has been evident over the past 3.5 years.

Just curious here - what resources or advantages are scaring Mack? I know he is afraid more often than not.

This excites me to no end. Personally if what you are saying is true I believe we might be better off missing on Saban and getting a staff full of NFL badasses. Music to my ears.

Mack has tried to re-invent himself on several occasions. Mack has indeed rebuilt his staff several times over the years but, the man never really adapted to the direction college football was heading. Mack was simply left behind. We found out that although we can change coordinators & coaches, we can't change the culture Mack has implemented on the 40

i.e Mack is reluctant to change anything he may feel takes the program in a direction he does not understand.

This happens to lots of coaches who stay too long. It's going to be a breath of fresh air to see someone else wearing the headset next year no matter who it is.

The assistant coaches and coordinators Mack has hired has left many wanting. Its like he would rather hire someone for their potential instead of their actual proven work. IMHO, there is no way we should have settled for Harsin or Applewhite as OCs or Diaz for the DC. There were much better options but, it seems Mack wanted to thought of as a genius who discovered new coaches instead of hiring proven ones. Maybe he knew he could "bully" them and he couldn't do the same w/ a more experienced crew.

Seems that way. Napoleon wouldnt want his generals getting the credit for his victories.
