If Bedford did indeed take over the db's, and someone needed to, he has done a masterful job I a few weeks, limitations not withstanding. Besides, I think calling coverage on the field is just a little different than putting a game plan together.
Hey, but what do I know, I'm a girl?
Java, dang you girls !!! How dare you be sometimes right !!! Just don't tell my wife about this. I'll never live it down !!!
You know, one thing I think we have learned is that it can be difficult to defend against BIG 12 offenses. I am not sure anybody does it particularly well. There seems to be certain truisms in football ... such as, running backs can play sooner out of high school because that position is more of a reflexive position depending on natural ability, or quarterbacks need seasoning and conditioning (Yum!!!) for a season or two before they can be effective in college.
I also remember a time when cornerbacks with flexible hips and lots of natural athleticism and speed could play out on that island all by themselves as freshmen. Offenses were a lot simpler back then.
I think what we are seeing is that those truisms can sometimes be turned on their heads. I don't know much, but, it seems to me that our young QB has flipped one truism on its' head. On the other
head, er, hand, we have seemed to discover that against these Big 12 offenses, defensive backs are going to need to be seasoned and stockpiled
like a fine brisket, er, like offensive linemen used to have to be at Nebraska.
Seems to me that a lot of defensive coaches coming into the BIG 12 might find their preconceived notions challenged. Remember the Run and Shoot offenses exemplified by Houston with
Klinger in a darling chiffon evening dress, or rather, David Klingler at QB? It took a while for defenses, especially DB's, to catch up.
Ohh!!! What the hell was I thinking about? ... In the meantime, get the hell off my lawn !!!
