Some BMDs worried

Texas being a MAJOR rebuilding project, and it appears Florida is where Strong looks to be comfortable recruiting; it is very possible Florida could get Strong to jump ship for $5 million. The issue is ...would they want him ?

We've talked about this possibility on several occasions. The general consensus was that Charlie Strong is not of the character that would commit to a program like Texas only to jump ship a year later. No, he'll give it at least five years despite who comes calling. That includes the either pay league (NFL, SEC.)

It actually pains me that some Texas fans have not grasped the man of character we have at the helm. Believe me, when he went looking for assistants he's aught men of equal character. I know of one BIG name assistant that reached out to Strong early on that was not considered due to him being in the middle of a messy situation.

........Coach Strong wanted the Florida job real bad when they hired Muschamp and he finished second............

It would have been close to a perfect scenario for him had he been willing to wait just one more year.  Stay at Louisville, where he had clearly built a very "strong" team and get in the mix for this playoff.  And, who knows -- if he were still coaching UL this week, maybe they beat FSU?  If so, they finish in the top 5 and maybe even win the MNC.  At that point, everyone at Louisville is deliriously happy and he slips comfortably away and into the Florida job this off season. He does love recruiting Florida kids.  Would have been ideal for him,

So the bar at UT is now set at "competent"?

Keep in mind that when TEXAS hired Mack, he had more skins on the wall than any coach dating back to Dana X Bible. . .INCLUDING DKR. . .

So you could argue our history is in gambling on someone coming to TEXAS and taking the "next step" . .. .DKR did it, Mack did it. . . I think CFS does it. . . .

Rumor I've seen is OU AD Castiglione (sp???) to

Michigan and Stoops back to Florida.

I'm not worried about Strong going to UF. Like a poster mentioned above, they'll go offensive mind (unless they get Stoops).

I would have to disagree. Even if Strong is waved at and nodded at as they pass him by, they could easily end up with another defensive guy at the helm.

The thing is - the folks at Florida LOVE Charlie Strong. Not talking fan base. And Strong loved his time at Florida and is extremely well connected there.

So IMO, what Muschamp has done and who he is will not matter one iota when it comes to their next guy.

My question is - what is the Texas buyout? IF they go after Charlie, they better bring a large checkbook.

No way Strong goes anywhere any time soon but UF fans would love to have him.  A buddy that went to UF for undergrad and Harvard for grad school said he was extremely jealous when Texas hired Strong.

Strong's got a plan and deviating from it is not an option.  Texas fans will have to deal with the speedbumps along the way.

Mark..............Strong will not go to Florida. You could have found out just as much about what Charlie Strong was going to do next year from talking to me and Street as you did from talking to your BMDs.

First of all...they have little to any control over what's presently happening in the AD at Austin. Secondly...they have almost zero access to Charlie and his inner circle. When they talk, they're just shootin the sh**.... like any other fan. Definitely entitled to have an opinion but that's about all it is...and not a particularly well informed or logical opinion either.

But you know I like you bro and I'm always entertained by news from the BMDs. Keep it coming.

Hey no worries. I just pass on what I hear. That news isn't from SHA.

But I tend to give BMDs a little more credit than what I've seen around here. They live, eat, breath Texas football. From what I understand, their anxiousness doesn't come from the Strong or Texas side, but the Florida side. They're hearing Florida is coming to call. Their Florida friends (UF BMDs) say Strong is beloved among them and the UF administration.

So I think it's possible they come calling. Strong's response is another story, IMO. I don't see Strong as someone who jumps from job to job, especially after landing a job like Texas. We ARE the major university that gave him a shot. That must mean something to him, IMO.

SO while I tend to give credence to the report, I don't think Charlie would entertain the idea for more than a minute or two. He's sunk in here.

I appreciate you clarifying your response. You're always good with me.

Did Will just buy himself one more year with the win yesterday?

Maybe not that win alone, but if he beats the 3 teams he should beat(Vandy, S.Carolina, E. Kentucky), plays a respectable game against FSU and Wins his bowl game, he will definitely get another year.

Exactly what shevis said. End of conversation.

Boom beat UGA Saturday, that is a rivalry game which is good for Boom.

Texas is the better job anyway.

It's going to take a couple more years for Coach Strong to clean up the Mack mess. The Horns have suffered years of lack of good coaching and player development.

A little historical trivia. Both DKR and David Mc left schools after one year to come to Texas. It does happen.

Yes, but that was to COME to Texas. And both of the schools they left were middle of the pack athletic depts.

In all my years following college football, Lane Kiffin is the only Head Coach I can remember that left a top tier football program for another top tier after one year. How did that work out for him? I doubt he gets another shot at a top tier program again. He's following the traditional ladder almost everyone else has had to follow. Position Coach - Coordinator - Lower or Middle Tier Head Coach - Top Tier Head Coach.

I've talked with a few folks down in Florida, because for some reason Dana's name has been popping up in various circles.

Of course I've been told about Mullen... but Mark Hudspeth (if that's spelled right), and Art Briles are being mentioned. Now I have no way of knowing if that is accurate or BS, just what I've been told. But when it comes to UF and Strong, it wouldn't surprise me if they threw a ton of money his way.
