This changes absolutely nothing. There was always built-in plausible deniability for Powers. This happens all the time in business. Nothing in his statements is not true. Others have handled the negotiations to this point, and Mack is technically still the coach. Things change after this weekend, but he is telling the truth as of right now.

I agree, but he is going to look terrible in front of the general public when we hire Saban in a week. But i guess most people forget about this stuff.

I see your concern and agree to a point. However, IMO, people will remember that he was covering for the current coach of the program, a coach who has done significant things for the football program and athletic department, and a personal friend more than he was "stretching the truth".

Thinking about it, most people probably won't even care! Everyone will be elated we have Saban and Bammers will be depressed Saban is leaving them.

What is Powers supposed to say? "Yes we are going to hire Nick Saban on Monday following our game against Baylor." We still have a coach. That coach is close with Powers. You are not going to see Powers do anything to belittle or compromise Mack. He wants Mack to step away gracefully just like a lot of us do.

And to be honest, what school President hires the football coaches anyway?

I'd expect a little more emphatic response. "Mack Brown is and will be our coach in 2014." Powers' statement does little to change the current landscape, IMO.

Powers may think hes safe with Wallace Hall about to be "executed", but Perry still has plenty of time to put in a replacement from his bag of cronies and finish the job. He's not going to get in the way of the billions of dollars that keep him employed.
