Saban, Conference Expansion, & other things

The ACC would be my favorite. IMO the ACC has better football, BASKETBALL & darn good baseball.
In addition, I believe the southern culture is important to maintain.
In that scenario, where would ou end up? It'd be nice to have them in the same conference to kick around annually.

Personally I like both the Acc and Pac.

Academically:GT/Miami/Duke/Unc vs Stanford/Cal/Ucla -I consider that pretty equal, maybe slight advantage to Pac

Goegraphic:East coast/SE vs West coast/SW -both have positives/negatives but SE wins bc of more talent there/population #s

Matchups:USC/Ucla/Oregon vs Fsu/Clemson/Miami -all are exciting games

Overall:SE>SW

If we do end up going to another conf. It would be nice to bring a partner with us.

Ideally, we let the Acc GOR expire and do the smart thing and take Fsu/Miami/Clemson/GT/NC St/VT

We heard in most previous scenarios that Texas & OU would be a package deal but I am not so sure about it any more. The Notre Dame model of being indy with affiliations in certain sports is quite attractive.

So do many of you feel that the Big 12, or at least Texas and the Big12 will fall apart after 12 yrs when it expires?

Yes I do.

I thought the Pac 12 would be awesome, but the ACC would be pretty damn good as well.

I think under "geographic" you left out a huge advantage for the ACC and that's the time zone factor. That's what puts the ACC over the top vs. the Pac 12, IMO. People on the East Coast, SE & Midwest miss a lot of what goes on out West just due to the time difference.

As for the demise of the Big 12, I don't think there's any way to know at this point. The whole Realignment Fracas was exciting for fans and full of angst for many programs but now that its died down, it seems most of the motivation was panic and greed. Next year begins a new era and I'm not so sure conference affiliation is that important as it was. Of course, the money is VERY important. The big schools are only going to get bigger.

The next "realignment" will be a re-configuration of the NCAA itself. The little schools simply won't be able to keep up any more no matter what kind of rules promoting parity they try to implement.

I think the 5 power conferences will eventually all have a CCG or none will. More likely, the Big 12 will add 2 teams and the CCGs will become a de facto playoff game. The 5 conference champ + ND + 2 at-large will make a 8 team playoff. That's the way I see it in the next 5-10 years.

Im honestly tired of Notre Dame getting a place at the table.
Agree completely. Outside of last year, they have done less than we have in the big picture of CFB IMO lately.

Don't know that the Big 12 will fall apart rather then some type of merge situation, more than likely with parts of the ACC.

I've always hated the Pac 12 idea. The time zone being one reason. I've always thought our fan base really only wants Pac 12 for their personal reasons so they can take "cool" road trips to California and take their families. Big picture wise, I've always been partial to the ACC and Big 10.

But even if you wanted to go so superficial as the "culture" argument, then we should go SEC.

Yes I do.

I like the idea of the ACC and as you stated, keeping the southern culture in the conference.

I think many if not most of us dislike ND.

So at the end of the day, if/when the Big12 dissolves/ceases to exist, the root cause of that will be our own Deloss Dodds. Thats disappointing.

Would Texas rather stay in a relatively weaker Big12 or move to another conference? I always though we would rather keep the Big 12 alive.

Also, if Texas/Ou were to leave the Big 12, i dont think it would be viable. It would clearly be the weakest conference.

So possibility of 4, 20 team leagues. And if Texas were to go to Acc, it could look something like the following(which i love).

Acc Water:Fsu/Clemson/Miami/VT/UVA/UNC/Duke/NCSt/Wake/Syracuse/BC(i know there are 11, but at least 1 will probably go to Sec/Big10)

Acc Land:Texas/Ou/Bu/TT/OKSt/GT/WV/Pitt/Louisville/ND

i like. Brilliant!

I agree that the Big 12 has become a regional conference that is basically a shit hole. No one cares about it outside of Texas.

Both the Acc and Pac would allow Texas and Ou to bring some friends and pretty much keep the most important part of the Big 12 intact. Easier for travel and also for regional power in the conference.
