Duvernay and Newsome aren't in the same league. Anyone that covers Texas HS football or recruiting will tell you this.Count me as one of the excited ones when Ryan switched from UCLA to Texas, so its disappointing news to me. Ryan and Devin are about the same size, quickness, and speed.
Devin: Height. 5'11". Weight. 193lbs. 40yd Dash. 4.38. Vertical. 37.7".
Ryan: Height. 5' 9". Weight. 170lbs. 40yd Dash. 4.35. Vertical. 39.5".
There was just as much excitement over Ryan as there was Devin when they signed. So I find the proverbial "The writing was on the wall" mantra to be presumptive. Ryan played very little last year without Devin here. There were rumors of him leaving and Ryan posted very cryptic twitter messages hinting on him leaving LONG before Devin ever committed. So whatever the reason is it hasnt worked out for Ryan, its not Devin.
Which is why Duvernay was the #36 composite player in the country and Newsome the #224 composite player in the country.
A lot of people actually thought Newsome had a drop off from his JR to SR year in HS.
I knew Newsome was gone after the Spring game. He had 0 receptions and was only targeted one time. That was before all the '16 recruits were even on campus. Newsome was pretty much relegated to punt returns.
I don't think Devin was the only reason Newsome left but I think it was the nail in the coffin. Newsome was getting limited touches/targets before Devin was even on campus.
