So far this morning, stories are out there that would seem to have taken Harbaugh, Shaw, and Tomlin off the table.

And I'm also seeing where people think Briles, Meyer, Fisher, and Malzahn are considered extreme long shots.

Who does that leave?

Is it possible that there will not be a first tier preferred candidate that will take the job?

Maybe, but remember Meyer wasn't "top tier" when he went to FU

Give it a chance to play out before you panic

at this point I dont think anyone should assume anyone is off the table

the deal making and real talk has likely not even started. People can say things in the media etc but behind the scenes is a different story. I would imagine people like Briles, Myer etc will say they are happy where they are yet behind the scenes some people are saying they have recently reached out to Texas

Personally, I think James Franklin might be the Horns best choice at the moment. To do what he's done at Vandy, imagine what he could do in Austin.

I don't believe any public statements coming from coaches on this matter.

We've seen these coaching searches become virtual train wrecks until the school feels the need to just hire somebody, anybody. Dodds always resolved we would never do that. Then he got old and tired and manipulated by his bestest friend. Here we are. There are no guarantees this doesn't end with a poor choice.

Mack - who is rumored to be a member of the search committtee (WTF??) - would love that BTW. Don't kid yourself. Makes the "legacy" look a little better.

in this day and age people who take these comments as written in stone arent paying attention to the world around them.

where is it rumored Mack would be on the search committee? I very seriously doubt that in fact after what went down yesterday per several (even Chip Brown is dishing goods) I dont think Mack will have any real input. A token notion if that.. Even Kirk Bohls of all people was saying today its likely just a few people on the committee, and no one outside Patterson and Powers was mentioned.

Absolutely.
Totally agree with Scholes...

I've been saying this for several weeks now.....With the early news leaking out that Mack could possibly be gone and the USC search, look at the many colleges that have upped the ante with their current coaches in offering new contracts....

The threat of Texas or USC coming to steal their coaches is real....All this posturing with new $$$ contracts is pure defense....You can't blame them....They know we have the $$$$ and are willing to pay it...

If we don't get one of our highly prized targets, I hope we can get lucky and find a hidden young Darrell Royal out there....problem is, he will have to be splashy enough for the BMDs or it won't happen....

Fear the worst and hope for the best.......Fingers crossed....

This is Patterson's show

Powers is feeling powder burns from the regents and the BMDs . Mack will not be part of this process

If we make a poor hire, it will be on Patterson. I suspect there are 10 or so guys that would do an excellent job here, I bet he gets a good one

I'm honestly very worried.

We're not exactly stocked and ready to go without opposition.

No thanks, he only has 3 years of HC experience. I don't see that happening at Texas.

I really hope so Joe.

I don't see Harbaugh, Harbaugh, Carroll, Tomlin leaving the NFL

I think Meyer and Jimbo Fisher stay

I think Malzahn probably stays.

I don't think it seems like Gruden gets a serious call

I'm not sure there's a home run hire out there besides the above - obviously I have questions about some of the above as well / every one has risk / reward to them

It's way too early to be writing off anyone really. This thing is just beginning and if some people are right at least 3 coaches are have already reached out. I suspect pattersons phone will be ringing off the wall

This is a mammoth opening and hasn't been avail for 16 years
