Recruiting Chat: Fire away

Chatter I heard was positive, but the big hurdle is the LSU official he will take where they have a chance to lock him down.
Can only echo what Mike is saying here. Coaches felt like they had a chance to flip Fowler prior to his visit. Good vibes coming out of this visit as well. LSU obviously wanted to make sure to have the follow up visit to Texas so they can lock Fowler up. This may come down to who can finish it off in the living room.

What's been up with DJax lately?
This one is a mystery for me. D-Jax and Texas seemed like a lock for so long, and now I have no idea what to think. FSU and UF have made up a lot of ground and him not taking an official to Austin doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. If he makes a trip to Austin in the next couple of weeks things will be really interesting.

Can anybody tell me why Brandon Jones is so high on A&M?
They were his first offer and he has a great relationship with the staff.  It's close to home and similar to Nacogdoches which from what I hear is a big Aggie town.

One word : Mom..,But after this weekend it's gonna be down to the wire J/k on the mom part but yeah he does have a great relationship with the staff

Jeff Taylor has done a hell of a job opening up the flood gates of the east Texas pipeline back to to Austin. And I knew Jeff Taylor when I went to school at Gilmer

I know these great players have earned the right to have their special moment as to how and when they make their

commitment/declaration and I respect that. But I'm a believer in "recruiting momentum" and I think there's something

to the "Pied Piper" effect (by that I mean some players are so good and so respected that their college choice can lead

other players to also want to play there). I see that Texas got several "silent commits" this weekend but would it be better

for recruiting momentum if these "silent" guys made their intentions public (as opposed to waiting until NSD and milking

the drama)?  I guess what I'm trying to say is if we hosted any Pied Piper types this weekend (I believe we did), shouldn't

we wish they would go ahead and give their public verbal commit to Texas so that other good players will follow?

Every year it's like this. They just want their moment. They may not ever have that chance again so I can respect that. Let them have their moment.

We'll get some of our class on NSD. In most cases, it won't be much of a surprise.

Yeah I definitely would love to have the momentum, but I rather not try to pressure the kid to make a move before he wants to and it backfire. And with the way things are trending behind the scenes and the time frame we are working with, I am fine with letting things play out the way they are.

Mr.Roach, I just read somewhere that DT Glen Logan was making an attempt to plan an OV to Texas. Apparently he cancelled. Is it just me or is Texas a bigger threat than LSU

I don't think he's a serious option at this point.  Anything can happen though.

Shackelford is an early enrollee.  Will that make a difference with the number of recruits UT takes this year?

My aggie friend is still confident they get Brandon Jones. He said he would only start to worry if momma Jones made the trip to Austin. Did momma make the trip to Austin.
He better start worrying. She was there.

Shack is an ideal inside candidate, but he's never played center and he will have to start learning it this spring. I think he will factor in early but I'm not sure he's a starter from the beginning.

And I always choose the Ribeye
Smart man.

now that Mattox has the least number of o-line Texas could take with 4 he needs to throw everything he has at Patrick Hudson no matter how remote the chances.

anytime Charlie gets to be around the parents and especially the mom Texas will have fighting chance with any recruit.

any commitment before signing day whether public or silent really means nothing so just enjoy that Charlie knows how game works and he doesn`t fill up class to early with players that will not really help Texas compete
