Who: Iowa State Cyclones 2-4 (0-3) vs Texas Longhorns 2-4 (1-2)
When: Saturday October 18, 2014, 7PM
Where: Darrell K. Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin TX (Longhorn Network)
Odds: Texas -13
The Good: The Cyclones haven't had a lot of good so far in their season. Aside from beating their in-state rival Iowa they don't have much to hang their hat on. The Cyclones have played competitively at times including a close loss to Kansas State. Quarterback Sam Richardson enters Saturday's game against Texas coming off of a career high 351 yards passing against Toledo.
The Bad: Iowa State's offense has played very poorly this season and ranks very closely with the Longhorns. Richardson is the Cyclones leading rusher at 283 yards on the season. The Cyclones are also playing with a lot of inexperience on defense and have struggled to stop teams giving up nearly 34 points per game. The low point of their season had to be the 34-14 opening day loss to North Dakota State.
The Uncertain: Both teams have showed some kick on offense but have struggled with consistency. The Longhorns have a much better defense, but both quarterbacks are coming off of career days and will look to carry that momentum forward.
What's at stake: Both teams are looking to use this game to springboard into the back half of their schedule with a little bit of confidence and one win closer to bowl eligibility. Iowa State faces a tough challenge in the back half of the schedule with games against Texas, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and TCU still on the slate. Texas has the opportunity to continue to build on an encouraging offensive performance against the Sooners by doing it again against Iowa State. Both teams are desperate and grasping for positive momentum.
