QB battle

I don't get the players not being happy part, but Chip likes to add drama. If players aren't happy about it, we still have a problem with kids not falling in line.........................................
I would feel a lot better about the QB drama if Charlie didn't have such an abysmal record of utter cluelessness about what is going on with the offense.
If it is true the team.is not on board with Charlie's leadership and some are still second guessing coaching decisions, it is not a good sign.

I hope all this gets cleared up quickly and we start getting reasons to have confidence that the program has turned the corner.

Back to back losing seasons and dissention in the locker room over coaching decisions to start season three aren't the hallmarks of a program under control.

Sunday's game will be interesting. I hope all the drama gets cleared up before the game starts. I also hope Chip is wrong about Charlie not having the confidence of the players regarding his coaching decisions.

I'd love to see us win, but most importantly, I hope it is evident that the program has turned the corner. THAT is what is most important.

Just keep in mind that just because Chip Brown says or writes something doesn't make it true. It might be but he's far from having a 100% accuracy on things he says.

We will get a good look at where things stand after the game Sunday. After last year's season opener, I have SERIOUS doubts about Charlie Strong's ability to get the program ready for a season. Since Charlie has been here, we have seen teams WOEFULLY under prepared for games to the point of being unable to execute a coin flip. The team has suffered some of the worst losses in the history of the program. Last season, against ND, Charlie didn't even have a clue what scheme the offense was going to run. The offensive game wasted an entire off-season. Charlie hasn't proved he can put together a winning season at Texas, let alone build a winning program.

Those are all accurate assessments.

It's time for Coach Strong to show he is the right guy to lead Texas football. He gets great marks for handling the program in the off-season and managing off the field issues, as well as connecting with recruits and in his overall recruiting.

The players understand know their scholarships are on the line. It's time for Charlie to start coaching as if his job is on the line. Handle the distractions leading up to the game, have the team prepared to play, manage the game properly and show the doubters they were wrong. We will see if Charlie can deliver.

Let's not forget last year:

Listen, you can debate about who your quarterback should be for weeks or months -- and many Texas fans have! -- but it doesn't matter if your offensive line is a sieve.Tyrone Swoopes? Jerrod Heard?

On Saturday night the Texas quarterback competition was basically "which one can run away from the unblocked Notre Dame defenders the fastest?"

It wasn't just pass-blocking, either, as the Longhorns were only able to rush for 60 yards on 29 attempts, and managed only eight first downs in the game.

The less said by the staff about the QB situation and the less leaked to the idiot bloggers who put their personal financial interests ahead of the best interests of the program, the coaches and the athletes, the better. I have always hated the "let me tell you something important that the coaching staff doesn't want to disclose and the other team's coaches really need to know if they are to have all the advantages possible." I wish Chip would be a bit less self-centered, but Chip has always been Chip and always will be Chip.

It's Shane. Peace be with you, grass hopper.
BON had a good piece on the insanely frustrating tendency of the Texas D to end the first half by slacking off and the team to just not show up to start the second half last season

We need to see those problems are something in the past Sunday night. We need to see whoever is running the offense can put back to back first downs in the first few series so the D isn't put in a hole early. We need to see Texas has a return game. Special teams needs to show they can execute.

Those are the kind of things I am going to be looking for. When Swoopes plays, is he past his painfully slow release.

The QB decision is big, but the team needs to show it is past some of its problems.

It's all on the defense Duke, if they can't stop the run....................It won't matter who is under center.

So... According to Chip.... All we've heard are reports all summer that Shane has the leadership and already has the respect of his teammates and they see the competitiveness.... But now they're not happy that he's starting? Yea, not buying it.
