This is laughable. Any coach not named Nick Saban would have fractured the fan base. UT fans need a gut check. We are a great program, but we are not some God of college football that has more pull than tOSU, USC, or Bammer. The fact that a large percentage of this fan base believes that every NFL/College coach would jump over the moon to take this job is hilarious. We are financially well off, as are many teams that would pay a coach 8 million/year. We are just one of a few premier jobs in the country. Charlie Strong is well thought of by all that have coaching experience, and he is considered good on the recruiting trail by everyone who is not trying to compare his Louisville average star ranking to Bama's like it is relevant. Lets reel him in, snag a top notch staff around him, and hit the ground running for NSD. Good hire, lets see how it plays out.

Wrong. He hasn't done anything to the fan base because he hasn't officially accepted anything. If anything, the BMD's fractured the fan base. It's not their job to make coaching decisions yet this group wants this and that group wants that. Some make public statements about who they want and others push for another behind the scenes. That's what you call fractured. You don't have the merit to say Strong is a bad hire or good hire because he hasn't played a down of football.
The problem with being a "fit" is just that. Many wanted to change the culture of Texas from political Mack Brown to an X's and O's football coach. Guess what? Strong is just that. When you change the culture of somewhere, there is no such thing as a "fit".

I don't understand the hate for Strong. I know that a lot of people thought Texas would put 10 million a year in front of Saban plus a ton of "off the record deals" and he would walk away from Alabama. It didn't happen, it's time to get over it. There were many of us that warned that Saban might not want to leave what he has built in Bama at his age to start over again. Most of the time that was said it was ignored or there would be 20 posters insisting that he would come. If you take Saban,Fisher and the Harbaugh brothers off the list who else would you want? Briles, if we believe what most are reporting he wanted the job but didn't want to interview. Patterson would have to be out of his mind to offer the job to Briles over the phone without an interview. Briles could have rejected the offer and BAYLOR would use that as a recruiting tool for decades. Most of us had Strong on the list after the short list. Lets give the guy a chance, let him get an awesome OC and change the image at Texas, no more soft teams with 4 and 5 star recruits that don't get any better then they were in high school. I know there is always going to be a small group that isn't happy with the coach at every school, can't do anything about those guys. Most of the posters on here seem like good guys though. It's time to support the new coach at the best university in the nation

Have to disagree with you on the fan base (us) being a little fractured on this wether it's official yet or not. Just read what everyone is saying. Half of us hate this hire, the other half love it. We're not waiting for it to get messy...it already is...IMO.

I'm not saying we aren't fractured right now. I am saying it's not Charlie Strongs fault. A lot of that responsibility goes to the BMD's. They are distributing information across all the Texas sites to many different "insiders". They are planting certain seeds of expectation among the fan base that a lot of the time is nothing more than their own wants and/or opinions. If Saban wanted to be at Texas, he'd be at Texas.

Fractured is only the beginning. Strong is a great Coach, great family values. The way this has gone down is an indication of where the University is right down. BDMs pulling their money, buyout clauses showing up, Strong didn't talk to his AD, President or team. The already battle with his staff... We just took 10 steps backwards. Not because of a Strong, but because the debacle DeLoss and Patterson have us in.
