The last thing we need is a good opponent in our bowl game....er..... can we turn down a bowl invite ? That could be best.

Please God, not A&M. They would kill us. As we suffer through the last few years and the next two it appears....we at least have SCOREBOARD on Aggy. I don't even want any power conference team for that matter other than maybe Michigan. That's it...we need Michigan...(.another team that has a storied history but stinks right now). Are they bowl eligible ???...No....

Maybe Texas State. ?????

You might say we are an improving team that just ran into a good TCU team.....WRONG

Yes, TCU is good, but that is why they beat us by 38. Good teams do that to bad teams with bad QB play. Look what good teams have done to us all season, and look at the records of the team we beat. You might point to WVU ( beat BU and played with TCU ) ...I say, " A blind hog finds an acorn every now and then."

Did you notice Watson went to the run game ( that wasn't working ) and throwing swing passes to backs, because he knew Swoopes couldn't handle a defense that actually played defense.

Even I was fooled into thinking we MIGHT be an improving team to the extent that I actually left my grandkids ( 2yr old and 5 month old ), and hauled my wife to Austin last night. At halftime we left, and watched the last qtr at home with the little ones. First game I ever left in all my years....I even stayed through 66-3.

It boggles the mind to think so many felt this year would be as good or better as last year.  Same team, mosly the same players, with the exception that Case McCoy won a couple of games last year that Texas probably shouldn't have.  After CS ran off several players(needed to be done), the loss of David Ash, and the sorry OL,  6-6 was the best outcome this year, IMO.

I think next year will be somewhat better, with 9-3 possible.  7-5 or 8-4 more likely.  It depends on the VAST improvement of the OL and finding a decent QB.  My $.02.

We still have a shot to end this season 7-6... We need to do that. I believe we can do that. We need to win despite Swoopes. There is plenty of time to gameplan a win with our strengths while minimizing our weaknesses.

When I first read the initial message heading up this thread I thought the responses would be pretty good... I was right. Ahahahahaha... Cant really believe the poster thought they would gain a following while tucking tail and running. THESE COLORS DONT RUN!!! Red, White, Blue, and BURNT MOTHERF'IN ORANGE!!!

You want Texas to turn down a bowl invitation. My guess on the reaction would be for the public to say that UT is chicken shit to play anyone. The players would be upset  since going to a bowl is a reward for the players which could have an effect on recruiting.

Finally, you want Charlie Strong to tell his players and coaches that he's turning down fifteen practices to improve the team. Coach Strong has talked in his press conference how important each practice is to him and the coaches.

Its much better they go to a bowl do the best they can and then concentrate on recruiting because we need better players. Hopefully, they can bring in someone who can compete for the starting QB position next year. I believe Heard will be the answer, but we need someone else besides Heard to challenge Swoopes. After reading the article on Heard, it was stated that Texas doesn't have an easy to learn offense. Since it took Heard the full year to start to get it, then I'm not counting on Gentry next year.

To All:

The Staff chose to edit my response. I don't understand it, but if it offended any members, I apologize, but I write from the heart.

I chose to edit the rest of my response because it was my response and shall remain such.

I love this team because they have proven over and over again this year that they will never give up. They will fight through adversity for their coach, for each other, and for their university. And they have had more than their share of adversity.

I feel a great deal of pride standing with those of you who stand with this team, much like we did at the Cotton Bowl, screaming Texas-Fight!

For those of you who don't stand with the team now, it is unfortunate you will not feel the same gratification that comes from great accomplishment when this team wins, and wins big, in the next year or two. I think Bedford said it best when he said ' get on now or get out of the way because we are coming right at you' .

Hook 'em!

This feels a lot like OB.

I hope we play A&M, they are atrocious. LSU's QB can't even hit a wide open WR and they dominated A&M's defense.
bomb, i love you pal... however, we have absolutely no right to be calling any other team "atrocious"!  at least aTm wasn't BLOWN OUT AT HOME!  i was at the game last night, and if it wasn't for the great food and wonderful time that i had at my downtown hotel... i would still be absolutely disgusted!

After the 1949 season, Texas was invited to the Gator Bowl. We had lost 4 by narrow margins and Texas turned down the invitation, and gave the "not good enough season" excuse. The real reason back then was budgetary. The Gator Bowl did not have a payout big enough to cover expenses (no TV back in that day) and Texas ( the AD was D.X. Bible) did not want to spend the money. A Texas team with a similar record (6-3-1) had gone to the Orange Bowl the year before and beat a highly ranked Georgia team 41-28.

Coach Royal was able to get the AD to spend more money on football when he got here in 1957, and then the TV money started rolling in, changing things forever.

A bit of history many of you have not heard.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. We can be bad and another team can be atrocious. A&M is horrible, the score wasn't even indicative of how bad LSU dominated A&M. If LSU's offense can dominate A&M's defense, that would be a very favorable matchup for Texas in a bowl game.

If A&M played TCU they would have lost by a billion. They got handled by a mediocre, at best, LSU team.

Again, I hope we play A&M. They aren't any good.

gbt, please feel free to post any and all that you wish!  this is HORN SPORTS.. and not the OB!  you should not have to be insulted just because you initiated an alternative opinion(s) as per other members.  although, i do not know you personally my pal, i am most certain that you indeed love your LONGHORNS just as the rest of us.  management, only requires that we try hard to be respectful to each other. trust me, each one of our members are indeed valuable.  please proceed to posting...

we kicked off half the team including some of our best players from last year, lost our starting QB in game 1, lost best OL and basically benched our best player (Daje) the entire season and STILL we looked better on whole than A&M who is quite frankly regressing.  Bring 'em on.

Charlie Strong has us headed in the right direction.

who said he couldn't/shouldn't post? a whiny, all-is-lost perspective helps serve as a nice counter balance.

I wasn't serious about turning down a bowl invite, but totally serious about the rest. We suck and any GOOD team ...hell...even Aggy will kill us. We might be able to play with Iowa...They have GDGD.
