Here's a link to the entire story: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/texas-longhorns/20131011-source-ut-officials-really-paranoid-texas-will-lose-war-to-am-on-and-off-field.ece
It's a subscription site so I don't know if you can enter? The interesting thing about the story were the quotes from one Red McCombs.
During an interview last week about the university leadership at Texas, prominent UT donor Red McCombs brought up A&M, citing the $285 million government contract A&M received in March to produce vaccines.

Does that raise the ante for Texas?“You didn’t ask me, but I’ll tell you, what I think was so great for the state was when John Sharp took over the (chancellor) role over at A&M,†McCombs said. “I think John Sharp will take A&M from a really good school to a great school.
McCombs said he told Sharp that Heisman winner Johnny Manziel has given A&M “the chance of a lifetime.“Well, hell yes, my God,†McCombs said. “I think he’s great and I want him to be great. I want Aggie students over there to be great, but I’m not interested in them beating Texas.
“There’s where we’re going to split the blanket, in athletics.â€
McCombs, who turns 86 in one week, said his age and natural outspokenness make him more likely to say what many Longhorns fans are thinking, but won’t admit aloud: A&M is better than Texas in football. Now they’re rebuilding their stadium and freshening it up. Right now, you know how Aggies are, I told John, ‘Ask them for anything. They’ll give you their grandmother’s dowry if you ask them for it because they’ve got the sensation (Manziel) now
“There’s no question we aren’t ahead of the curve. In my opinion, the majority of high school players would choose to go to Texas. I think even Aggies would tell you that. So it’s just a question of the coaches at Texas making the right choices in which guys they take.
“I just think the Aggies have got better talent and have had for a couple of years.â€
