After reading some reports about the "oddity" of the Strong hire considering is football X's and O's focus rather than the CEO approach skillfully played by Brown, I have come to a conclusion: we are seeing a new model in Austin being unveiled. I think Patterson is going to take a more active role (point person) on many of the glad-handing that Mack might have done in the past. Strong will coach (how novel) and Patterson will be the CEO. I think this insulates the football program from the "noise" that is so loud at times at Texas. If Patterson's approach is to be the CEO then Strong seems to be the perfect fit...his ego and Patterson's will not compete for air time. I think part of the problem in the past was that Mack probably felt he was above DeLoss in stature so took on the CEO duties which detracted from his coaching duties. I think the AD as CEO and Coach as Coach model is a much better way to structure....and I think that is exactly what Patterson has done. That would be tough with a Saban or Harbaugh or Gruden. Their egos would rival Mack's and their desire to do non-coaching duties would be similar to Brown's. So, in conclusion, I think Patterson has a new plan and I like it! Charlie Strong...probably the perfect choice in this paradigm.

...patterson seems to have really performed his due diligence upon strong. heartfelt partnership...

It's not surprising that UT would go in the polar opposite direction of something they were being caused to falter by. So many hires end up being that way.

Too funny...I have actually wondered these exact same things!

I just saw this post, and I agree wholeheartedly that Strong won't have to worry about hob-knobbing...
