I'm too lazy to go check out costs. But I strongly...and I do mean strongly...suggest everyone visit Ireland in their lifetime. It is seriously one of the most beautiful and relaxing places on Earth. Good people. Untouched Monuments. Incredible nature. Just a thought.
Ireland is also rainy and cold.
And driving there is nuts -- Stay Left!
I went for a wedding. Which meant I had to drink Guinness with every happy Irish dude I met (they are generally pretty happy). Now, imagine having to navigate those f'n roundabouts, hungover BAD the next morning, sitting on the wrong side of the rental car, with the gear shift at your left hand. It's madness I tell you.
I will always remember this horrible golf shot I hit at #13 Lahinch (
http://www.lahinchgolf.com/).
It was in bad weather. I was alone on the course (the gf bailed and sat in the car (running with heat on) so I could finnish the round -- once you get the chills there, it is tough to turn them off). I was wearing rain gear (including hoody over the top as otherwise I couldnt see). I was on the Par 3 #8. I shanked a 5-wood so bad it was headed to the tee at #9. At that exact moment, a 45-mph gust blew -- caught the ball and blew it back not just on the green but at the hole, where it lipped out. That was the closest to a hole-in-one I have ever been and it took and an Act of God. It is funny the things we remember with accuity -- that one shot I can see in my head almost as if I were still standing there. It was shades of the Caddyshack lightening scene.
In this pic \/ you can see a ruin of a castle. There are a couple of these on the courses. Pretty cool setting to be driving into a that backstop.
I chose that course in that town bc they also have surf right there (west coast of Ireland). I try and surf wherever I vacation, if for no other reason than I can tell my friends afterwards, "Yeah, I went out there." Unbelieveably cold water. Hoody/footies/gloves. The Irish surfers were actually thankful for the Gulf Stream.
