OT: Cars

Car guys, I'm totally clueless about cars!  My first car was as Honda Civic (V4 engine) and current car is a Toyota Prius (V4) engine.  My requirement for my next car is speed, like getting on the freeway without any hesitation fast.  

So question is, do I look at the the engine (V4, V6, V8) or the horsepower to determine the speed of the car?  I do not excel at science, btw.

I prefer a luxury sports sedan over a SUV if that helps.  Trying to exude some coolness to my dorkiness.

Definitely can't afford cars that cost as much as a house.

BMW and Lexus offer good, mid-sized cars in that price range. The Lexus 350 ES is highly recommended.

As a general rule, the V6 is gonna have more horsepower and speed than a V4.

I had a 97 m3 once upon a time. Best and funnest car I ever owned. Traded it in for a 350z. The m3 drives circles around the z.

I tried to cut & paste Consumer Reports rankings - no luck because it's a paid subscription.

The Hyundai Genesis scored 89 of 100. You may want to pony up the $30 annual fee for this type of purchase. But, you can probably find many free car reviews, too.

Can't go wrong with either one but they will most likely be out of your price range. Look at the 335i It will put you right in the middle of your range and it is plenty fast to get into trouble.

For BMW, what do the i, d, and x represent?

Save you some money and get the Honda Accord with the V6. The top of the line model is listed in the mid 30s. If you have a good friend that's a mechanic and you like spending time with him, then buy the BMW.

i is their standard 328i, 528i.., x is all wheel drive and d is diesel.

I have to agree - the BMW we had (X3) spent more time in the shop than in my driveway.
