One Month Around the World Vacation

The food isn't the best. But the knuckle was quite tasty. I didn't eat the skin part.

Having Indian food tomorrow. Need something ethnic.

Berlin: A sobering city yet also a neat city as they try to move forward from the depressing past.

Went on a 5 hour bike tour today. In our tour group of 16, I met a fellow Longhorn who currently resides in Zurich with her children and husband and also a current student from Rice studying abroad. Such a small world!

The Germans seemed to have advanced on the vegetable sides since I last went.  I remember getting a pork knuckle with a roll.  No greens at all.

After 2 weeks of cultural education, I am off to the beach tomorrow for some fun in the sun.

Highlights from Bangkok in pictures.

No fear....

It's nearing 9:30pm here in Koh Samui, Thailand. Tomorrow will be Day 17 of 29 abroad. Reflecting back on my last 2 weeks, there's nothing quite like home. As much as I enjoy traveling the world and experiencing new cultures and food, I miss my dearest family and friends. Since moving back from SF, I live with my brother and his family. I actually miss waking up at 6:30 to take my nephew to school and especially miss my little niece running into my room in the mornings for a good morning hug and kiss. As much as I am looking forward to my next city, I'm also counting down the days to Home Sweet Home. And I also miss Cross Fit.

Highlights from trip:

Madrid - Love their food. Best culinary country IMO. A beautiful city. Reminds of me NYC in many ways as there are always multiple cafes, restaurants and bars on every block. I also enjoy eating late, around 11pm every night and sleeping at 3am. The city never sleeps! And the guys here are super hot.

Prague - Such a beautiful charming city. Cobble stone streets, city lights up at light and so very romantic. As for food, if you like eating sausage everyday, then you're in heaven. Probably the best sausage I've eaten but not something I would consume everyday, maybe only once a week. But I found Italian food in Europe to be very good, both in Prague and Berlin. Beer!! Absolutely the best beer I've ever had. I was bored after 2 nights though.

Berlin - This city is so new, as in 20th century buildings compared to Madrid and Prague. Due to the wars, Berlin had to rebuild the city over and over. Overall depressing city because to learn about the city of Berlin, you're also learning about all the bad: Hilter, Nazis, Berlin Wall, WWI and II, Cold War, etc. But Berlin is moving forward and the city is becoming more cosmopolitan and diverse. Food here sucks too. It's all meat but beer was tasty. I did, however, have the best Indian food in Berlin.

Bangkok/Koh Samui - Wow! Thailand is my new Hawaii. I love going to Hawaii yearly, now Thailand is a must do every year. I roamed with tigers and rode on an elephant. Such great culture and history in Bangkok too. Food was absolutely amazing. Bear with me as I brag about prices. I can eat a tasty meal for $10 a day. One day for lunch, I had the most amazing duck noodle soup for $1.50. Nahm Restaurant in Bangkok was recently voted as the best Asian restaurant by San Pellegrino and ranked #13 in the world. I had dinner there and chose the tasting menu. Tasting menu in America at a highly ranked restaurant would easily set you back over $100. I had an 11 course meal for $60!!! It was every bit as creative and delicious as an American 5 star restaurant. Everyone is also so friendly and nice. I also got a custom tailored 3 piece Italian wool suit and 3 blouses made for $300. $15 for a 2 hour Thai massage! The lady did such an amazing job I gave her a $10 tip. I think I made her month. There are so many islands to visit in Thailand. Koh Samui is paradise. Although through my travels, I realized I'm a city vacay girl. I'm pretty bored now after 2 days on the beach. One more day to go......

Off to Hong Kong, my favorite Asian city, on Saturday! A mini SF reunion as a couple of friends are in HK for work! :)
