We all joke around about it, but honestly if you are the coach who do you go with next year. All three have been part of the hiesmen conversation at one time or another. Do you really think any of the three are willing to take the clipboard now after proving that they are good enough to win? I would be hard pressed not to demand for a release and transfer.

I'd say it's a forgone conclusion that Braxton will transfer. The issue you run into is how you handle the Jones and Barrett situation. If it's me, despite Cardale's excellent accomplishments against Wisconsin and Alabama, I'm rolling with Barrett. He played like a Heisman Candidate this year and stepped up big time. However, Jones is a year ahead of Barrett. So Urban could also opt to play the more Senior of the two Quarterbacks as Barrett would still have a year of eligibility to play when Jones is done. The problem there is, Barrett won't want to sit now. Not after the season he had. I both envy and don't envy Meyer as he goes into this.

In a perfect world, Meyer tells the world that Jones is going to be their Starter next year after the National Championship game and Barrett decides to transfer. Texas Football rights its wrong in nabbing Barrett and we move on to the next few years of having a potential Heisman winning Quarterback at the helm. In a realistic world, Miller transfers somewhere like Oregon and Meyer claims there will be a QB competition in the Spring of which Barrett will ultimately win. All of the props in the world to Cardale Jones as he's played very well against two big opponents. But I still think Barrett is the better of the two young Quarterbacks.

I can’t help but wonder…

How can Ohio State have their 3rd string QB take them to a National Championship game… with wins of 59-0 over Wisconsin… and last nights win over Alabama… but Texas can’t even get their 2nd string QB to make a correct handle to the running back… or avoid delay of game penalty on the second play of the game?

Is it residual damage (poor recruiting and player development) from the previous staff… or inadequate coaching from the current staff?

The truth’s probably somewhere in between… but it sure is frustrating to watch.

I can’t help but envy… and congratulate Ohio State.

Oh… to have their QB problem.

Urban Meyer… helluava coach, IMO

This staff was ready to move Swoopes to TE this spring but had no one else on campus to be a backup QB.  Do we blame the previous staff?

Then suspensions and injuries decimated the OL.  Do we blame Strong for disciplining players?

The less time you spend looking for blame, the more time you have to find solutions.

Swoopes, as much of an athlete as he is, just isn't cut out to play Quarterback at the Collegiate level. Mack taking him as a QB over Barrett should tell you all that you need to know. I'd actually praise the current staff for letting Swoopes play this year. Any Longhorn with a shred of honesty would admit that we weren't going to compete for anything big this year. The staff made the wise decision to red-shirt Heard so he has more time to develop and potentially more time starting for the Longhorns. This was a transition year and Swoopes was the transition Quarterback.

Well said.  Way too many folks still looking to assign blame around here.  I'd rather focus on solutions

It will take years to build up the quarterback depth to a championship level. Ohio State beat Alabama with their 3rd string quarterback after the first two got injured. We don't even have a 3rd string quarterback, or even a 2nd string quarterback. This is a situation several years in the making, and it will take time to get where we need to be.

Swoopes is just the last in a long line of really bad quarterback recruiting decisions made by the prior staff.
