Oh Aggy.

While we're on the topic of NCs...I have always wondered, if we had beaten Georgia in the Cotton Bowl on 1/1/1984...

entering that day, Nebraska was #1, Texas #2. We lost early in the day, Miami was aware of that and they played

"over their heads" IMO that night to beat Nebraska in an epic game. I guess Miami saw us lose and realized if they

could upset Nebraska, they would claim the NC. My point is, had Texas won that day, would Miami have been just

as fired up? And if Texas had won and Miami still upset NU, would we have been undisputed winner of the NC?
we would have easily been #1.

Well, J.B., we claim 1970...and I don't think that's right, given the Cotton Bowl whipping

Notre Dame put on Texas. I guess back then, the NC champs were picked BEFORE

the bowl games. I just never have agreed with that, the bowl games should have always

mattered.
different times. Both AP and UPI named champions pre bowl prior to '68 when AP changed. UPI followed suit in '74.

Stole and edited this from Duke C #11's post...

Man, that really hurt, losing that Cotton Bowl to Georgia. We just had no offensive punch in that game.

I remember Rick McIvor drew the start after throwing four second half td passes to skewer A&M.

I'll credit stout defense by Georgia to shut down our passing attack, but UT's running game didn't

do much that day. IIRC, Edwin Simmons had been previously lost for the season by knee injury;

we sure needed him that day.  And that '83 Texas defense...they were AWESOME all that year.

David McWilliams was the DC that year.  IMO, that '83 Texas defense was one of the best ever

in NCAA College Football history, certainly one of (the best ever?) the finest Texas defenses ever.

So close, so close, to a NC for Fred Akers and Texas.  Man, I wish Simmons had been healthy

that day!

The Houston Chronicle reported Monday that Texas A&M is nearly finished providing additional steel reinforcement to Kyle Field's new south end zone stands after they shifted unsettlingly during the Aggies' loss to LSU. Officials said fans weren't in any danger and that the movement came within established safety parameters, but that the school received enough complaints that it felt reinforcement was necessary. http://mweb.cbssports.com/ncaaf/eye-on-college-football/25234177/particular-frequency-of-sandstorm-causes-kyle-field-stands-to-shift

For an 'engineering school', they certainly appear to experience a disproportionate number of design flaws. Just sayin'

Look close and you can actually see the south end zone sagging in the corners on the left.

I wouldn't sit (or stand if you're aggie) on that side of the stadium!

CEO of Pogue Construction Responds to Engineers' Report | NBC ...

Ben Pogue is the President and CEO of Pogue Construction.  Allen High School's stadium had to have a lot

of repair work (due to cracks in concrete) done last year. Mr. Pogue is a graduate of Texas A&M.  Things that

are constructed will need repairs from time to time...but this new football stadium had been constructed only

18 months earlier...when the flaws were discovered.

BTW...this is old news here on HornSports. There were posts about this about 15-16 months ago here on HS.

I just couldn't resist bringing it up again, in reply to what java posted!

Amazing, is it not? These structures are made of steel and concrete, not Lincoln Logs. Someone needs to get serious about this, ahem, stuff.

Hook 'em!

What a waste of time and money. At least it was aggie time and money.

Texas A&M fans wait hours in line, pay $125 to get Johnny Manziel's autograph

“Some stood in line — at times in 100-degree heat — for three hours to meet the 2012 Heisman-winning Texas A&M quarterback

good Gawd. I always assumed Johnny was king of aggie dumb-assery. Evidently there's at least 350 ags who have him beat.

As much as I'd like to meet Earl and Vince, I'm not standing in line for 3hrs to do so whether it be inside or outside.
