SignUp Now!In reality, UT and aggy are headed on two different trajectories and the ags had to do something to end the constant comparing everything they did to the standard set by UT. They had to get out of the burnt orange shadow they were living in.A&M was a good fit in the BigXII.
BigXII is centric to the State of Texas. (give or take choice of term)
A&M is still more Texas than South and would have "had fun" competing against fellow Texas high school players.
Plus the annual Thanksgiving Day game that comes with a biannual visit to the city, with a parade up to the Capital.
Frankly I say they gave up the real quality and essence of their campus, program and sports.
And will come to regret it. Sooner than later.
The SEC move was focused on football. All about football. They forget about basketball and baseball. And women's basketball. And both teams of Track & Field. And swimming and diving. Not to mention the total connection to generations of Texas families, towns and counties.
In total, the knee-jerk move is maybe the most classic 'aggie' thing ever done. The opposite of where they most fit if you take into consideration every aspect of the university; past, present and future.
Daylon Mack & Myles GarrettI recognize Chavis, but I'm not recognizing the two other guys. Golden and Claiborne?
The changes occurring on campus are a level of magnitude different than when when most of us were on campus. The operating budget of UT Austin is roughly $2.4 billion/year for about 48,000 students. Aggy's operating budget is $1.3 billion for 56,000 students. The difference between the operating budgets of the two schools, $1.1 billion dwarfs the entire operating budget of OU. The annual operating budget for UT Austin is greater than that of TAMU College Station and OU combined. From this outline by Randolf Duke, I see now that I was using an out-dated paradigm for my analysis.
Comes from my being at UT a long long time ago. Funny how that works. Hard to catch up to the magnitude of changes.
Good post. The changes at the university actually blows my mind.
Figure this... tuition my freshman year was $50. With fees, under $200.
I kept a record of my first year expenses, as daddy was against me going and mother had to back me.
Total for the first year was $1,165. My half of a rented room 5 blocks west of campus on 22nd street, was $19.
I paid $38 a month for 2 meals a day and one on Sat at a boarding house just off the old intramural field.
After that year I worked for meals at Kinsolving (breakfast).
By now I struggle to comprehend what new student faces in costs.
They are unbeatable. They never lose, they just run out of time!If live DJ's and fake "swag" produced champions, aggie would be unbeatable
Don't forget, aggy ALWAYS wins halftimeThey are unbeatable. They never lose, they just run out of time!
I always thought that was one of their DUMBER sayings! :wacko:Don't forget, aggy ALWAYS wins halftime
Well said. The problem at CS is the aggy perception that TAMU was and is on a level basis with UT. That has never been the case nor will it ever be. At least as long as the campus resides in the state of Texas.A&M was a good fit in the BigXII.
