Just to add fuel to the speculation of who the OC will be. What makes this fun is all the names fit what we have heard at one point or another.

Tom Herman: Played WR in college and was WR coach at Sam Houston

Lincoln Riley: Former WR coach at Texas Tech. Coached Crabtree.

Kyle Shanahan: Played WR in college and was WR coach for Houston Texans.

Now as far as the timing is concerned.

Riley was scheduled to be at the 49er game to view his old player Crabtree. Obviously if it was me I would probably being headed to a new job at Texas. However if the rumors are true about the possible pay being >$1 million than that could help explain.

Shanahan is up for the Dolphons job and could be waiting to hear back from that.

Herman, I have no clue.

FUN TIMES!

That would also explain why Riley was not at the meeting and will be announced tomorrow. From what I was told tonight, I would bet on it being Riley.

Herman is following 3 fewer people on twitter today than yesterday but he is still following heard

I don't see the significance. Either that, or internet speculation has reached a whole new level I wasn't aware of.

Noel Malzonne is another (nice catch by Nickel Rover on BC). His offense fits the zone blocking scheme that Wickline is installing. coached WRs at the beginning of his career as well as in the NFL.

That is interesting to note.

I think the one thing that is obvious, from what we have seen. We won't really know until we know. ;)

That's a lot of names being thrown around.

I think people are really underestimating the hire of Joe Wickline in this whole discussion. There are many reasons why Joe would want to stay at OSU. Heck, I'm sure he gave Mack Brown a few dozen reasons in years past alone.

But this time is different. This time, Joe Wickline is comfortable enough with all those moves being made (those known and unknown to the public) that has finally him to the point where moving to Austin is in his best interests. I think Joe knows who the OC already is... but is just waiting for all the formalities.

I think the key to the OC is knowing who Joe Wickline really likes working with. Joe ain't going to jump ship for just anybody. It's either going to be the "best in the business" sort of guy... or someone who he is very familiar with, likes, and respects.

The home run hire would be someone like Chad Morris.

The comfort hire for Wickline would be more along the lines of a Gunter Brewer.

Regardless, I hope we can get this coaching staff filled out very soon.

Or maybe Wickline made the move because he has reached the highest level possible with what he has to work with at OSU, is getting up there in age, sees Austin as a better place to turn the last corner in his career, is getting paid more at UT, has personal ties to Strong, or any combination of the above. It's not like he was playing under a world-class and proven OC at OSU this past year. It may have had nothing to do with his decision, and I wouldn't bet the bank that his coming in signals we made a homerun hire, or any hire at all at this point in time.

Per Bandit above... (name to watch... Mike Groh)

And had a mediocre offense the last time he was an OC at Virginia. Sorry to be the pessimistic again, but do not want.
