Now things could get interesting

That's definitely not something you'd expect to happen right now. Weird timing to say the least.

Maybe they want to send a loud and clear message to him that backing Mack is an unacceptable position to be taking right now. Just get out of the way. WE WANT A NEW FOOTBALL COACH!

So do y'all think that MB trying to play hard ball with the Texas football program might bring down his friend Powers? My friends y'all have a great week.

Absolutely this is the big boy politics at play. He better sacrifice Mack, or he could be gone and all the academic good he cares about could go away.

The timing is far from coincidental.
I think the timing is entirely coincidental. The agenda would have been set before Saturday afternoon. With the Legislature considering the impeachment of Hall, having given clear directions not to take any employment action with respect to Powers and with Powers about to testify in the Legislature investigation in just a few days, it would be more than stupid for any Regent to give the Legislature the finger and move against Powers.

Plus, with the Legislature moving to protect the academic integrity of UT against Rick Perry's "reforms" the Regents would be laughingstocks if they fired the sitting Chair of the AAU because he refused to fire a head football coach. Doing so would tarnish the academic reputation of UT among other AAU schools beyond repair.

Fire? no but Powers needs to get the F out of the way. This could be a warning shot
