No beer at DKR in 2014

Goodness gracious!  I refuse to read all of this.  I thought this thread was about beer at DKR!  The angst, it is heavy with Longhorns these days!  May we all wake up soon to better days with Burnt Orange sunsets!
not plural. it's pretty much just one guy. the rest of us are just blissfully ignorant evidently.

No I do get it... you pay the price of a Texas football game and that's what me and you get a football game... now you donate you get a football game and some benefits.

Now should beer be served to everyone? Sure but that is not my decision to make... but just because I donate and get access to a club doesn't make it wrong or me a bad person... I just a regular guy trying to make it in this world with burnt orange blood in my heart..

Just for clarification what exactly do you want besides beer? Short answer please and try not to pontificate to much please... please remember nothing is free in your answers. ..
Dobbs,

For 6 pages Duke has been asked time and again for what he'd do differently and what his "better fan experience" looks like.

Let's review what he's offered.

  • Patterson has failed
  • Patterson has not been able to unify the fan base
  • Patterson cannot get something small like beer sales done
  • Patterson only respects the rich fans
  • Patterson is not earning his salary
  • Patterson is losing the fan base
  • Patterson is in danger of losing season ticket holders
  • Patterson has not delivered on his first big initiative, beer sales
  • Patterson has not created buzz around the start of the season
  • Patterson has not upgraded the game day experience
  • Patterson is not going to bring change quickly
  • Patterson is the "status quo" crowd's choice
  • Patterson is the reason we're not selling out home games
  • Patterson is happy selling tickets on Groupon
  • Patterson is good at shaking hands, keeping fields mowed (didn't know turf needed mowing, but I digress,) and signing paychecks
  • Patterson is ignoring the Social Media generation
  • Patterson isn't a dynamic leader
  • It started about beer, but is no longer about beer
  • Our media group sucks and we don't know if there will be better WiFi and in-game Twitter updates.
  • We are not getting the younger generation of fans in place
  • Debt service; need I say more?
  • Underperformance on the field is in direct correlation with Patterson as well as how much UT spends per athlete. Texas apparently overpays for subpar athletes.
What he has not offered are any solutions.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say RD and Berkeley Breathed know each other.

I regret to say that I have scanned or read most of this thread.

For complaints regarding the decision not to sell alcohol at DKR this Fall, you should contact the man responsible for the decision.  His contact information is:

     Francisco Cigarroa, Chancellor

     University of Texas System

     email:  fcigarroa@utsystem.edu

     phone:  512.499.4201

I would suggest a well-reasoned email.  Threats of leaving early will probably not phase him.  I believe he is a hired gun acting in his own best interests, but give it a try. It can do no harm.  He does have a reputation to consider, and I doubt he wants an outcry against him on the internet just as he is leaving office to resume transplant surgery in Texas.  Bad reps do tend to follow one throughout a career.  His reputation has not been enhanced during the last few weeks in Austin.

I could care less if he become a pariah.  Personally I wouldn't want someone of Cigarroa's nature operating on anyone that I love.  He is entirely too wishy washy for me.

Sorry to take the conversation this direction, but...here is something else to consider when it comes to ticket sales and attendance across the country, our economy right now is not the best it has been in the past.  We are seeing higher ticket prices to pay for the "fan experience" yet many people are taking in the same size paycheck they did 5 years ago.  Inflation has not stopped, but the paycheck increases have.  If I am not making enough to go to every game, I am going to keep that money, spend 8 bucks for a six-pack instead of one beer, watch the game on my 60" and enjoy some good old BBQ from my pit.

While I agree we want change in bellmont, I think there is more to attendance than the sale of beer, fan experience, and tweet feeds during the game.  If you are going to bring up the decline in attendance across the country, you also have to be willing to look at the issue holistically.  Just my opinion.

As an employee of the stadium, I can honestly say that I'm not too upset about beer sales. People don't exactly issue self control during tailgates, and allowing them to continue to drink inside the stadium could be a liability.

As a student and patron of football games, I'm bummed. My student ticket went up $75 and I would at least feel a little better if I knew I had a reward.

All in all, I'm interested to see this debate next season.

what does it cost students these days?

Great! Another thread that I keep coming back to read and expecting to read something new. But no. I keep reading the same thing over and over with some of the words just being moved around ;)

Well at this point in this thread, I think that Joewa owns all of the rest of youse guys!  Joewa, I especially like "The Hype of Texas is Upon You!" and the "My God Life is Offensive!"  strips.  You should patent that post for future use in interminable threads such as this ... Well played, Joewa!  ;)   Now, in the interest of equal time, would you please provide us with an equally outrageous satire of Chucky?  I am not sure even if he has posted on this thread, I gave up keeping score, but he probably has, and we surely do need a quick response for him, too.  The Silly Season has a way to go yet!  I must say that in the, "My God Life is Offensive!" strip, there were five major characters arguing in the chorus, yet apparently only four ran away.  It seems to me that they ate the woman!  Very quickly! Java!  SFLonghorngirl!  Beware!  There are cannibals amongst us!  ;)

Joewa has shut down the forum!!!

There shall be no other posts on any other threads until Joewa tops this effort!

I repeat!  There is no reason for any other posts here to forward!

Joewa has won the Interwebz!

Thank you for your participation!

Patterson is getting paid $1 mil/yr. You want me to do the AD's job, pay me. There are enough people napping around Bellmont on their $500 Old Mill pillows. Patterson can earn his pay. It would be a nice departure from how Bellmont is now run.
Besides, I have offered enough suggestions over the various threads.

I'm still waiting for anyone to point to anything that explains why Patterson was the right leader for UT athletics. Seriously. Somebody offer something to explain how what he has done to earn the $650,000 he has been paid so far couldn't have just as easily been done just as well by an intern. What value has Patterson added?

You know, Randolf, you have a lot of really good things to say.  You have ideas about things that, frankly, I have not given much thought.  I really want to hear more about what you think about other topics when the opportunities for such discussions present themselves.  The problem is that the acrimony between you and echeese, just to name one discussion - this is not just about you and him, becomes a bit tiresome after a while.  The nature of the discussion itself tends to turn folks off.  Please, just stop the personal attacks.  When that happens, you have already lost any advantage that you had in the discussion.  People put up with this, because they don't want to be confrontational.  They respect you.  They even may agree with you a bit.  But, crap!  It gets old!  Now, I know that you will probably think that I am just addressing you, just like cheese did on another post, but, man!  I am addressing anybody who thinks that their ego is bigger or more important than the STATE of this forum.  For all of you, let your arguments speak for themselves.  Use whatever debating skills, multi-media skills, humor, or story telling skills that you can bring to bear in order to make your case, but please, cease and desist with the personal attacks.

Geewillikers!  I certainly am testy tonight, aren't I?  ;)

Dang!  I am beginning to experience deja vu all over again!

and there it is. the 'jump the shark' moment that was inevitable given the hyperbolic hysteria from all previous posts.

I may pin this post to the top of the board. Not for Duke...for everyone.

echeese started with the attacks against me. I tired of them early on.
I absolutely believe the Texas program should be a leader on the field and off. Somehow, people took that belief to be an attack on the UT athletic program.

LHN was innovative. What have we done since LHN that is innovative? Stanford decided to endow each athletic scholarship. That should be a major priority for UT. Our media group sucks, but all anyone wants to say is that the media people have lifetime state employment, so our media group will suck for the foreseeable future. 27 employees. Park them in a dark room and let them rot while still on the payroll and hire 27 competent people. Do something to give us a competent staff. As I pointed out a few days ago, UT pisses $40 million in "unallocated costs" down the drain every year. Send the incompetents to rot, duplicate the costs without the damage to the program the useless people cause and we win in the long run.

Guys like echeese don't see how Texas athletics can lead. We can't be better than we are unless we change. Change isn't a bad thing. We need change. We need a lot of change. We will never be what we can be unless we embrace change. I just don't see what change Patterson is bringing to the program.
