NFL Proposal to Move The PAT Back

I can see why they do this, but I don't know that I necessarily agree with it.

Now if they take away kickoffs, then I'll be very upset.

And as the famous philosopher Tom Cruise once said: "You haven't seen me very upset." (Or something like that).

They want to speed up the game and they see PATs as an opportunity to cut out activities that take time but don't often affect the games. This is all based on making the product fit into the allotted broadcast window. If you want to see something really interesting, watch how baseball will have to make rule changes to deal with instant replay reviews because how they will slow down an already interminably slow sport.

I'm normally a traditionalisy and I want to get upset at the idea of changing the rules, but PATs really are a waste of everyone's time. During the Superbowl I go to the fridge during PATs and stay put for the commercials, so that tells you something.

Maybe not quite to the 25, but I'd be okay with the 15 or the 20. I think you'd ideally like a great kicker to make 95%+, a mediocre one to make 80% and a weak kicker to miss as many as a third. That's just enough to make it worth watching, without totally screwing up the game dynamics.

Why not let the defense play football instead of catering to protect the offensive guys...oh wait this isn't the NFL thread complaining about previous rule changes. Being a soccer guy, I say leave the PAT in place. There is a reason we call it football in America isn't there? It's a shame the rest of the world is too naive and calls a sport which uses the feet 98 percent of the time football. What a bunch of morons!
