New Texas QB Bram Kohlhausen - what dost thy Hornsports minions thinkest?

It adds depth just in case David Ash gets injured but I am not sure he would work out as Texas starting QB. The only purpose this would serve is to keep Jerrod Heard redshirting for 2014.

I like it because it almost guarantees a Heard RS, allows Swoopes to be 2nd and get some more reps, is a disaster plan should Ash and Swoopes get hurt that doesnt involve Heard, and doesn't use a scholarship.

I remember a 3* recruit named Colt McCoy that I was quite unexcited about....who knows what may happen.

Wasn't the same thing said about Case McCoy???

Depth and insurance if Ash goes down. Not much of a dual-threat with 5.2 speed.

Looks like Strong is serious about a redshirt for Heard.

When I get a nibble, I reel that sucker all the way in and line her up with my other fish before deciding whether to throw her back.

Red shirt Heard. Hold a battle royal between Ash, Swoopes and Kohlhausen for the 2014 QB job. In 2015, Heard will be ready to fight for the job.

For 2014 (with limited knowledge of Kohlhausen), I'd probably rank them:

1. Ash (caveat is that we're still a bit worried about the head)

2. Kohlhausen

3. Swoopes

None of these is a slam dunk so I think you need to keep an open mind. And if there's some combination of Heard showing brilliance in practice and the other three stinking it up, you may still need to burn Heard's red shirt.

In any case, this sounds a whole hell of a lot better than the start of last season where we had:

1. Ash, head and shoulders above Case and Tyrone (soon to be concussed)

2. Case, who in his senior year was barely hanging on to the #2 spot

3. Swoopes, who had one good series in the Orange and White game, but was an obvious red shirt unless something drastic happened (it did)

If we'd had a half decent walk-on last year we probably could have saved Swoopes' red shirt and won at least another games where Case was dying on the field, but Swoopes was just too raw.

Pretty sure he hasn't decided that he is coming or not yet, and if he does I wouldn't count on him to be anything other than a guy to take reps in the spring so David and Tyrone's arms don't fall off in spring practice. If he is reasonably decent he will allow Heard to be shirted.

So this is the guy Sumlin actually recruited at QB over Johnny Manziel?

I'm just askin.
