Texas has offered 2016 Elmore (AL) Edgewood Academy DE/TE Kelvin Lucky.  Lucky is an under the radar athletic freak standing 6'6 230.

I'm catching up with Kelvin now.  He was offered by Jeff Traylor and believes he's being recruited at Tight End.  More coming...

"To say that Lucky is a raw, under-the-radar prospect is probably an understatement -- the Nigerian native didn't play his first football game until this fall, but has been productive as a defensive end and a tight end for Edgewood Academy despite his inexperience.

Still unrated by the services, Lucky is variously listed as 6'6 and between 228 pounds and 240 pounds with a 4.6 40-yard dash and 83-inch wingspan.

Prior to Vanderbilt offering several weeks ago, no other Power 5 programs had offered Lucky, meaning that Texas is the first truly national school to do so, though a number of others could and likely will quickly join the fray."

Nigerian Kelvin Lucky has a lot of experience on the football field - all of 9 games total. Yet, more teams are taking an interest in this promising project. Tranferring his basketball skills to the gridiron has helped his quick maturation as a two-way football player.

See if you can pick him out in his team pic below. (HINT: He's not wearing a hat.)

I remember another Nigerian that did not start playing American football until 1984.  Christian Okoye turned out to be an outstanding football player.  You can't coach size and speed.

wow, this kid is huge and knows how to use his size already. Most tall football players spend a considerate amount of time learning how to stay low and use leverage at the point of attack, his form isnt too bad for 9 games of football experience. He could be an incredible TE, look at the size of his hands in the intro to his video.

players like this are why taking to many early commits and filling up your class leads to trouble. tight ends with size, speed and basketball background is the trend now in NFL. why not take a chance especially at position Texas has struggled with for last decade

Very interesting prospect! Going to be close with our numbers but these are the raw athletes you need to take chances on

Back in the 60's, Dallas took a BB player thast had never played any organized football and made him into a perennial all pro...Cornell Green

I love basketball players, especially power forwards who convert to football. . . .

BTW,

Mike. . .only realized this week you are 40acrefantic from OB.
