New commit

Why is a damn sheep humper posting on our website. Who cares about your stinking evaluations.

I hate to agree with an aggie but he brings up some valid points. His first step is slow and doesnt play with power. However kids with his frame that havent been tapped out when it comes to potential do not come around often. This offer makes sense, over the past few years we didnt secure too many dlinemen and with his potential upside we need numbers. I do have alot of faith in our coaching compared to the last few year's. Aggymatic dont sweat the criticism , we all just hate your school with a passion. And aggies are delusional

We are somewhat delusional. Here is the upside: he kind of reminds me of another former Rowlett DE, Damontrae Moore with his frame.

Let's see in a few years.

First, he's got a good frame, Second, he's pretty smart. The coaching staff probably thinks they have the raw materials to work with. Most of the criticisms (playing high, using hands, and strength) can be addressed by coaching. We'll have to see on the first step and fluidity.

Basically, if it's a mediocre year in the state for DEs and UT is short on numbers, how does it hurt taking the no. 2 guy in the state at this position? I expect we'll take 3 more (depending on the spring attrition) and it's doubtful we'll pull 4 guys from OOS.

For instance, there is no reason Kris Boyd shouldn't have an A&M offer.

This is where you lost me. Boyd is undoubtedly the best cover corner in the state. He's a can't miss.

In your analysis, you pinpoint two items you consider to be "cons" with regard to the recruit. Both items are coach-correctable and are probably a result of poor off-season and lack of individual technique coaching.

Your analysis seems to count on these items remaining status quo with no change in sight.

Strong saw some things he really liked in the kid, was obviously willing to accept the cons and felt they were correctable. You seldom get a "finished work" coming out of HS. It is a problem for you to think that way, IMO.

You complain that we took the #2 DE in the state. We have a long list of AA DEs who were not the #1 DE recruit in the state. He has an offer from N'western and was drawing serious interest from Bama, Michigan, Baylor, Cal, OSU and TCU.

You are allowed to question somebody that your school is paying millions. I challenge you to look at things and formulate an opinion instead of just saying I trust in ...(unless it's holy). Every staff in the country will make multiple questionable offers to players that won't pan out (Mack made ton towards the end of his tenure), including Strong and Sumlin. I personally like to have knowledge of these players and have made judgments of them that haven't always agreed with the accepted logic. For instance, there is no reason Kris Boyd shouldn't have an A&M offer. We made some poor offers in the our secondary and linebacker class in 2013. Each one of these bad takes is one less scholarship for a guy that could upgrade your program, not only is it OK to be frustrated at this, but it should be natural to be disconcerted at continuing to take average players into the program year after year.
nobody is saying you can't question coaches. we all do it all the time.
but you didn't address my specific question. you said the 'kid isn't worthy' and i asked how would you know this over and above the texas staff.

Those just jumping all over Ag need to chill. Everyone appreciates him when he posts positive responses. Looks pretty ridiculous when he even prefaces his post the way he did and some of you are all over him. He's either a good poster, who should be treated with respect, or a troll who should be called out. I tend to think he's the former.

I, for one, will not question Strong on the defensive side of the ball, yet. He fielded some defenses at Florida that shut everyone down, and I mean everyone. He is not lazy, and he knows what he wants. If he wants a kid, then I hope he gets the kid. Same goes for Wickline.

That's where I stand, at this moment in time. That's my plan, and I'm stickin' to it.

Questions? Thoughts?

Hook 'em? Let's ride!

While we are on the topic of recruits OT harrell marquell has decommited from ole Miss. This guy is a beast, someone coach Wickline needs to target. Tall, fast, strong.

Gotta have faith in the process. The Mack program was not working, so I see a good culture change with Strong and company. Who cares what our aggie visitor thinks? McCoy, Colt that is, was not a high recruit. Showed the desire and smarts to succeed. Somebody coached him well, got to give Mack credit for finding him and developing him in to the top winning college QB.. Find the talent, not just what the "experts" think! Keep fighting for the 4-5 stars, but coaches should use their smarts to locate talent in the lower star stratosphere. Nobody seems to bag the "wickline" finds (3 stars) because he has such a good rep as a developer of talent. Charlie, stay focused and continue your plan!

I'm bashing whoever evaluated this guy and decided to offer him, because he is not good IMO, not even close to worthy. In even an average year in the state at DE, teams with resources like Texas would be laughed at for doling out an offer like this. If this guy pans out then it is certainly a testament to coaching being better.
Of course an Aggie is going to bash one of our recruits. I personally saw him play twice at Rowlett this past year, and he completely dominated (but I guess that means an "average year"). Coming from the fanbase that was ecstatic yesterday after signing a DB that runs a 5.1 40. Just can't take you guys seriously. If you saw this guy play, you would also know that Charles fits what Strong likes. Not huge guys, but guys that have quickness and versatility to move around on the line and even linebacker.

Count me as one that is not impressed with either of the defensive recruits from Warren Easton that we have offered. I'm not sure I would trust someone's opinions on recruiting when they get signing and committing confused. As for the Strong fit comment, there is very little quickness displayed on the 8 minute junior film highlight on HUDL. I'm not so much baffled at the offer as the timing, guys like this very rarely get offered by a program like Texas in February but I guess Strong wanted one in the bag before moving on to bigger fish. I see this guy as a Tyrone Taylor type for ya'll. Which two games did you see?

Based on past history there are 2 givens that I as a Longhorn will accept until proven otherwise. Joe Wickline will recruit and coach a great OL, Charlie Strong will build a strong defense. When you have those 2 things covered, you can win a lot of football games with average play from everywhere else on the team. Fortunately for Texas, we don't have to worry about getting average skill position players.

Dalton, thank you for putting out the Harrell guy. Just watched the HUDL, fool is a dancing bear, can move his feet for a big man. The whole Southeast region is nasty this year, seems like a stud emerges everyday.

This will be my last response to Strong's defensive offers and the resulting commits. Does anyone remember Brian Robison from the 05 National Championship team? Remember the uproar when he was offered? He was drafted in the fourth round, and he is still playing in the NFL. I remember the comments at that time about Splendora and the size of the school.

There are reasons a coaching staff dedicates so much time to recruiting!

Offering the #2 DE in the state is beneath aggy? Good god, these clowns are insufferable. Imagine if they actually won something.

I cannot wait to see your list. Please mods, allow it.

What a tool.

Not our aggie poster, but aggie in general seems to be pretty stoked with their four losses last year. Apparently four losses means you are the greatest in college football. Yes, great recruiting class but they haven't won any games yet as far as I've seen. Lots of talk, let's see how they do without their best players returning next season. Might surprise me, should be an exciting football season!

the way he prefaced his post is PRECISELY why i jumped on him. it is disingenuous in the extreme.

"i'm not bashing, but yeah really, i'm bashing, i'm just hoping you either won't notice because you're dense as shit, or if you do, you'll let me get away with it".

that's bullshit. period. if you're gonna bash, come on out and display your cojones and bash, but don't try to prequalify the bashing with that nonsensical garbage.
