New Article on Chip Brown from Peter Rousell

So Mack Brown threatened to go public with information that Chip Brown and others have already made public months ago?

How does that make any sense?

Think this through. What damage would that really have done, other than to make Mack look like a crazy out of touch old coach, and only validate the actions being taken to remove him?

Either Mack was bluffing and our guys are the worst poker players ever, or more pieces are still missing?

He threatened to go public with the Saban story from last January. It would out Saban from a "legitimate" coaching source.

Joe Jamail's threats from a few weeks ago come to mind here. I imagine he would go after the regents representing UT who attempted to lead others to believe that Mack is done when his contract was legally still in force. I'm sure JJ told Mack to make that threat this week.

And Saban would say, as he has actually said before in 2012, that teams come after him all the time and he has no idea what communications or inquiries come to his agent.

Plausible deniability.

This idea is ludicrous.

JJ threats carry a lot more water than Mack going public with anything. JJ threatening to block the Saban hire is certainly possible.

But that blows apart the notion that a unified effort was underway to get Saban. When a guy whose name is on the field is still standing in the way, then this was never really as close to happening as we think.

And Brink, I was blacklisted from OB this morning. Ketch didn't like my critique of Chip and the site since they hired him to make it a respectable, journalistic entity.

Tell me if I'm missing anything here...

Mack Brown publicly says Nick Saban is his friend and then behind closed doors trashes the man's good name and integrity and Mack believes he is the person who should get to decide which person has high enough integrity to be the next head coach at UT. What a fu@king hypocrite.

Sounds a lot like JJ was threatening a tortuous interference law suit on Mack's behalf. He may have a case against the folks that contacted Saban last yr. mind you I doubt they could win because, Mack has no damages economically and he did agree to step down this yr if he didn't meet performance criteria that have previously been mentioned. But they sure could make a mess. Of course Mack and JJ would come off as pos if they did it, but the bluff appears to have worked. Maybe it was just to buy time to queer the Nick to Texas deal.

This caught my attention as well. This just goes to show you how big his ego is, imo. He can't stand the notion of someone doing a better job, even a friend.

Sounds about right. Jamail had an ace in the hole and played it.

Getting warmer, I think.

Lesson learned to all. You don't go papering terms with the new coach until you've already bought out the old contract.

An embarrassing blunder by the Get Saban camp, and something that made me very uneasy when the word contract started getting tossed about.
