NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Texas senior Nate Boyer was named to the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Tuesday in an announcement by the Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Boyer, a fifth-year deep-snapper, is the ninth Longhorn to earn a spot on the prestigious team that each year pays tribute to a select group of student-athletes who have worked to positively impact the lives of others. He is among 22 collegiate players, including 11 at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level, on this year's team.
A native of Dublin, California, Boyer spent a number of years in the military prior to enrolling at Texas in 2010. He earned a Bronze Star for his service with the U.S. Army Special Forces Unit.
In addition to all of his distinguished military service, Boyer has been involved in numerous community activities both individually and with the team. He has arranged military personnel guest speakers who have shared their experiences with team, including hosting Wounded Warriors and a team visit at Camp Mabry in Austin, which houses the Texas National Guard. He helped start a UT student organization called Caring for Camo which holds packing events for military care packages and hosts other activities to benefit wounded veterans.
Boyer is a regular visitor to the Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin. Prior to his time at Texas and the military, Boyer spent time working with autistic children and also traveled to Darfur to assist area refugees.
