The numbers tell us that if Strong is going to succeed at Texas he is going to have to do something he has not done in six years as a head coach. Trust a modern offensive mind and allow them to run an offense that can produce results of these listed. For this to happen Strong is going to have to change what he believes about offense and winning football games.

2010 Louisville     26.4 points a game

2011 Louisville     21.9 points a game

2012 Louisville     31.2 points a game

2013 Louisville     35.2 points a game

2014 Texas         21.4 points a game

2015 Texas         24 points a game

BIG 12 CHAMPIONS

2010   OU     37.2

2011  OSU    48.7

2012  OU      38.2

2013  BU      52.4

2014 TCU     46.5

National Champions

2010 Auburn 41.2

2011 Bama   34.8

2012 Bama   38.7

2013 FSU      51.7

2014 OSU     44.8

Charlie reminds me of my son's high school basketball coach. He literally wanted them to pass the ball at least 5 times before they took a shot. He hated scoring quickly. Charlie's mindset is to "possess" the ball before you score instead of "attack" and try to score quickly. It's a very conservative mindset that can stifle aggressiveness and confidence. I'm not sure that we aren't seeing that with this team and Jerrod Heard in particular.

Very telling.  It takes an offensive minded coach to win in this conference.

Until you have a good QB, you are comparing apples to oranges. In the last 2 years, Texas has started a QB with 0 years of starting experience. Yeah, Swoopes started last year, but he didn't have a full year under his belt. There aren't too many young QBs that can come in and start for a power 5 team and do exceptionally well. Until Texas gets a seasoned QB, it's probably best to play somewhat conservative.

baylor fell way below their average last night with a true freshman starting.  they still won the game.  however, there is a big difference between us and them.  baylor OL > UT OL.  it makes a big difference to a young qb if he can trust his OL to keep the defense off of him and give him enough time to progress through his reads.

I know that everyone talks about how bad California's defense was. Since playing Texas, California has played USC, UCLA, Washington State, Utah, and Washington. The adjusted offensive rankings for these teams are 8, 11, 42, 43, and 51. Texas, btw, comes in at 98.

Against California, Texas scored more points than any of the above 5 teams and had more total yards offense than any of them. Only the QB's for UCLA (399) and Washington State (389) threw for more yards against California than Jerrod Heard did (364). However, it took UCLA 16 more attempts and WSU 18 more attempts to eclipse Heard by only 35 and 25 more yards respectively. And, if you didn't know, the QB for UCLA (Josh Rosen) is a true freshmen and is currently is 23rd in the nation in yards passing per game. The Washington State QB is 2nd and the USC QB is 21st. Yet these guys didn't do what Heard did against the California defense!

The Texas offense that night was anything but conservative! Since then Texas has gone conservative on offense. Bottom line, conservative ain't going to get you shit in today's college football world. Charlie needs to figure that out and sooner rather than later.

Your son played for Gene Hackman?

It also worries me how little confidence Heard has now. He used to come in just ready to ball and I just feel that the QB coach may have something to do with it. I don't see how he could regress since that performance against Cal. I understand we are going run first, but simple throws aren't being implemented in the game plan and you can tell his confidence is shaken.

I have been concerned since the day he said we just want a QB that can manage the O....Of course there are exceptions, but the vast majority of champions NFL or NCAA, and their chief competitors are  won with excellent QB's.

We should always want excellent QB's - not just managers.

In the Big 12, no matter how good your D, you will have to win 3 shootouts, that is what it will take be Champions.
