Offense
1. Run blocking has not been great so far. Our "line-yards" which is an advanced metric basically measuring how many yards the OL blocks the run for has been pretty abysmal though we do rank 50th overall which isn't awful. Seems like things perhaps improved the last few weeks against the terrible D of OU and the very stout D of Iowa State. Maybe we are starting to gel in that regard.
2. With Bijan and Roschon we don't need to block, those 2 can make something out of nothing better than any other. Thank goodness we have those two right now.
3. Hard to assess the passing offense with the split between two QBs and the inconsistent play we have seen from both. When they are on, we are great. J Whitt and Worthy are great weapons, as is Sanders at TE. We would really benefit from a 3rd WR threat, ie Neyor.
4. Pass blocking has been much improved, Quinn hasn't been sacked in the last 2 games and we haven't had lots of easy pressure on the QBs.
Defense
1. Tackling has been great this season. I think we had 1-2 really bad tackling drives against ULM and Bama but I don't remember tackling being an issue otherwise.
2. Run defense has been great. Aside from the 81 yarders to Alabama, no big runs given up. All 3 levels are playing great against the run.
3. Pass rush has been missing in most games. We did finally start securing a few sacks but we are not consistently pressuring the QB.
4. Pass defense has been great at preventing the big play (at least until Iowa State). We are however giving up a very high completion rate. It is not a bad strategy to force 3rd downs but we then seem to give up too easy of a completion to convert the 3rd down. Gotta play stickier coverage, at least situationally.
Special Teams
1. Kickoff coverage has been great. Even though Stone doesn't put many in the endzone, lots of teams call fair catch because when teams run it out on us, we crush them before the 25 yr line. Per football outsides, we rank #10 in kickoff coverage efficiency.
2. Punting - it's been rough. The starter, Pearson lost the job after his fumbles early. Triejo showed some promise but hasn't been putting much distance on his kicks recently. Coverage has been good at least.
3. FG kicking - Auburn has been decent, especially for a young first time starter. 11-15 on the year so far.
