I 100% support the players. Most alums I know and people who attend games are also supporting the players. Ironically the ones who are opposed and speaking the loudest have no skin in the game.

Since there also seems to be some civil war debate in here let be clear about that too.

The Confederates were traitors and losers... Glad they lost

Oh I see we're also talking about the Democratic party of the 1950's etc. yes southern democrats were racist. They all left the party and became Republican over Civil rights. Just look at electoral maps of the south in the 1960's Mostly blue... Why do Republicans today keep talking about the Dems of the past and act like that the Republican party today is like some champion on civil rights.... LMAO

I hate politics on this board but if you’re going to do it get your facts straight.

““Oh I see we're also talking about the Democratic party of the 1950's etc. yes southern democrats were racist. They all left the party and became Republican over Civil rights.“

Absolutely false. In 1964 a much higher percentage of Republican lawmakers voted for the civil rights act than Democrats. Look it up.

So yes maybe some non-racist democrats became Republicans.

But the far bigger exit of Democrats was over the Vietnam war and LBJ’s drastic escalation of it. He and his pimp McNamara destroyed a generation because of it.

Wrong.

I will remind that this link is to PBS, a very liberal news and documentary organization.

When you have no real liquid assets or capital and are faced with high tariffs, you have a problem. North wanted high tariffs to protect the industrialized North while the South wanted and needed lower tariffs because Cotton had grown into a very competitive market (many nations were growing cotton by then) and they needed the advantage.

Most of it was centered outside of slavery, but existed because of slavery.

As simple as you'd like to think it was, it was not. The election of the first Republican president who vowed to abolish slavery spelled the secession of the South, and then war.

Also, though Lincoln had planned to make Reconstrution more of a rehabilitative effort than punitive, he was assassinated. After that, Reconstruction became as punitive as we should all know it was, if we know any history, in large part due to greed.

Even though brothers had fought brothers, and some Southerners had fought for the North, the Southern states went through Reconstruction under Republican Administration. I still recall when the first Republican governor since Reconstruction was elected  in Texas.

How long have kids been learning history in Texas via film clips?  It’s a disgrace.

What?  PBS is objective!! lol

I love it when people virtue signal and point to articles or studies as facts.  Especially from others who have bias one way or the other.  That bias affects the outcome and must be considered.

Everyone assumes this is about racism.  Maybe is just plain old police brutality.  Im not black and cant speak on how it goes but when I was younger I was treated like crap by law enforcement.  My truck was searched for drugs without any probable cause whatsoever because I looked like a California surfer.  This was back in Williamson county in the late 80's.  I even had a deputy make me remove a bumper sticker which said "Sex: the most fun you can have without laughing"  He stopped me and told me to remove it while his wife in the another car was throwing a fit over the bumper sticker.  He told if I didnt he was taking me to jail.  LOL  I did remove it because I just wanted to go on my way.  So yea some police power trip but that doesnt make every police officer a racist brute.

I watched Acho's video,  "Uncomfortable conversations with a black guy".  He mentioned black people had a late start due to slavery.  I can see that but didnt Ben Carson grow up in the projects?  He went on to be brilliant brain surgeon, rich, famous.  How does that fit the narrative?

Most of my black friends said they dont have any issues with the police or racism in general.  Hell one told me blacks are just as racist to whites but he cant say that because other blacks will hate on him.

I realize UT is very liberal and I am not trying to offend or start any political or humanitarian debate but IMO all of this shit will get worse.  Its fashionable to be offended and apologetic now days.  I saw a video of some white people washing the feet of seated black people and asking for forgiveness on behalf of white people.  WTF?  I never owned slaves and no black person I know today was ever a slave.  Its almost like virtue and sin are now inherited.  Sorry not buying it.  History if full of mistakes all we can do is make things better.  Policing needs reform and better training .    That shithead cop had numerous incidents and should have been fired long ago but that doesn't make  every cop a racist brute

We are all Americans.  Black Americans, White Americans, Hispanic Americans, etc.

. Here is exert from WH Stephens VP of the Confederate states Cornerstone speech. "Our new government['s] foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man."

We can argue all we want about the civil war. But the fact remains the confederates are a bunch of racist traitors. Glad the losers lost....

That whole late start isn’t something people make up. Point to one person and 100 doesn’t change anything. People love to bring up MLK during his birthday and post quotes. Do people not read his quotes or listen to his words.. here’s a link, to watch the video in it, it may help you.

Also there were many African Americans who joined the military to try to give there family a prosperous future. Read up on the GI Bill and African Americans.

Or how about when African Americans did gain generational wealth, like Black Wall Street. She what happened to them?? Or countless times when white people would come and set a black family’s house on fire. They destroyed people’s homes and took their land. And those families were never compensated for that. We’ve had to overcome a lot of things man. It’s ok to admit there may have been some oppression.

As for what your friends say. They don’t speak for the race as a whole. I have never had any issues with police but I have dealt with racism. So what does it matter that they haven’t? We are witnessing racism daily. You have what 10 black friends? What % is the African American population do they represent?? And 1 friend. 1 friend. Told you something and you have to run and tell the world. See black people are racists too. Yet in the same breath you say this friend can’t say it because other black people will hate him?? Why is that? Because he’s saying things maybe they don’t agree with? Idk. But I do know that it’s odd you wanted to point that out & talk about 1 black persons opinion. You have thousands of black people saying somethings wrong with police and you aren’t buying that? You have how many players saying they are offended by The Eyes but hey what do they know? 1 friend. 1 friend. Says black people are racists as whites and you call it gospel to be spread to the masses. You’re telling on yourself my guy.

I have one question to ask the folks on here, and have wanted to ask it since all of this started. However, I do not want to cause any issues, so I am going to refrain. Obviously our players are bigger thinkers than some on here because they stated they were all together on their thoughts on racism, that they were close, tight, and they are not accusing anyone.

I had a sociology professor at UT that had us read a book by Aronson, The Social Animal.  I believe the first name was David. This is not a direct quote. I would need to dig through boxes to find it.  He claimed that everyone was prejudiced because-and the following is key-even the so-called unprejudiced are prejudiced against the prejudiced.

Let that sink in for a minute, then think about it. Does it apply to you, or do you have other prejudices you just don’t want to admit?

MBHORNSFAN,

Why do you persist in trying to call people out?  Why not just discuss things rationally?

Shouting doesn’t change anyone’s mind, people just stop listening.

As I said in my post I can see that.  Ben Carson is the exception rather than the rule but if he can do it then so can others.

Look I am a numbers guy.  Here are the numbers.

2019

10 million arrests in US

1004 Police involved in fatal shootings

41 of those were unarmed

19 of those were WHITE

9 were black

89 police died

Now you will say blacks make up only 13% of the US population. So the numbers look skewed.  right?

I look at the crime population.  White make up 44% and Blacks make up 42% of all crime.  Yet twice as many unarmed whites died to police as blacks.

How do you explain this?

As for the "Youre telling on yourself" comment.  Are you calling me a racist?  If so thats your opinion and thats fine.  Everyone has a right to their own opinions but I am not racist.  I wont apologize for being a white male christain.  I worked for everything I have and I wont apologize for that either.

You were in sociology. So they had to teach you the definition of prejudice. Did they teach the difference between that and say bigotry. Or that and say racism. Yes people, all people, can have some type of prejudice. Just like all people can hate. I hate rapists. That’s not hate based on their skin tone. It’s hate based on them being a rapist. So maybe what’s the base of the prejudice? Is it for a whole race? For a subsect? To try to deal with this with a both sides defense is a bad look.

Lol you’re a numbers guy but threw out a black people are racists too line based on 1 person?? Impressive.

As far you numbers. You just admitted that we make up 13% of the population so the numbers are bad when you think about that. You’re defense it to trot out the well blacks commit more crime. You’re love numbers must stop you  from doing any type of deep thinking. If people are protesting right now because there are issues with the policing of black people. A person dealing in good faith would say. If people policing a community has implicit bias. Maybe they are arresting these people on minor  offenses. Maybe they are arresting these people for things white people aren’t. Maybe just maybe, the your numbers don’t tell the story. But I mean, we just saw another man killed in Atlanta. He was shot in the back & it was ruled homicide. That man was apparently intoxicated. They wanted to arrest him for that even though he wasn’t driving,  wasn’t bothering anyone, and stated he could walk to his sisters down the street to sleep. They wanted to arrest him still. We had a person drive while intoxicated in Texas and kill 4 people. He got off with in-patient treatment. Yeah man you aren’t ready to deal with the ills of the world. Take the blue pill sir.

As far if I called you a racist. Trust me, I have no problem telling a person I think they are racist. And I won’t dance around it. If I think you’re a racist I will tell you point blank on here or to your face. I will never dance around that.

No need to get angry my man.  We are just discussing the issues.

I never said it was GOSPEL.  I am not black and can only go by what black people I trust say to me in confidence.  Maybe they are hiding some inner dark oppression from me.  I dont know.  I dont believe everything I hear but these have been friends of mine for a long time and we have shared many experiences together.  So I trust them.  One of them is a friend who is head of security for a casino in Mississippi.  He had to leave work because of the bashing he received when he mentioned to a group of workers the very thing he said to me.  He said he was scared he was about to get mobbed by coworkers.  I dont believe he would make this up.  I just told him to be safe and be careful.  I love him, hes like my brother.

So your response is more black people are harassed by police?  The number do not fit the racism narrative otherwise there would be more blacks killed than whites.  Period.  Numbers can be misleading but if racism is the true reason behind this than the numbers would be reversed.  As I mentioned earlier the number tend to suggest brutality as an overall issue but they do not back up the racist narrative

Not angry. Wouldn’t get angry with anyone on the internet because I have no relationship with you to be angered about. Black people you trust now?? You’re a numbers guy remember. The number of black people saying what you don’t want to believe is overwhelmingly. Maybe they don’t talk to you about it. I don’t know them so I can’t help you there. Maybe they have never experienced any racism. Idk. But again the majority of us are telling you that it happens. The numbers man, the numbers. If you want to just say I like numbers when they help me. Otherwise I’m gonna go with what I feel. That’s fine. But you just threw away your believed numbers for guys you trust, even though they represent a ridiculously small number of people from the African American community. I don’t know man. Enjoy that blue pill.

Your numbers may say one thing these numbers suggest that they are harassed more.

Staggering Racial Bias: Marijuana use is roughly equal among Blacks and whites, yet Blacks are 3.73 times as likely to be arrested for marijuana possession.
