I am already tired of watching basketball and seeing all the players dominate that Rick Barnes did not get. Marcus Smart can flat out play. Patterson please go get a top notch basketball coach.

Tough seeing the Texas HS BB players go out of state.

I want to see the program get re-energized so bad...it kills me that all of our programs fell so far so fast...

Especially since we're not above doing what it takes to get a kid to Austin. The ask wasn't even that outrageous.

KD was at the OSU game and was quoted "Marcus Smart could already be playing in the NBA."

not taking forte, because he wasnt Texas good was the final nail in rb's coffin. marcus smart will remind rb of that this year. it will be brutal and that team is pretty loaded with talent. they made a pretty decent memphis team look like a jv squad. i shudder to think what happens if they play us with any urgency.

Texas would have landed smart all they had to do was take Forte. Texas was on forte early but then stopped recruiting, why I have no idea.

He's an inconsistent 5'8" SG

his stats and play at osu tell a different story. also his success as a winner at the hs level are pretty unquestionable. i am sorry, you take that guy to land smart. here are some facts, and he is 5'11-

2012-13 (Freshman season)

• established a school record for three-pointers made by a freshman with 68; previous record was 67 by James Anderson.

• ended the season making 27 straight free throws, tied for the seventh-longest string in school history.

• had just 16 turnovers in 835 minutes of court time, an average of less than 0.77 TOs per 40 minutes, a school record.

• finished 54 of 59 (.915) from the line in Big 12 action, leading the league and the fifth-highest by a Big 12 player in the 17-year history of the conference.

• reached double figures 17 times, including two 20-point games.

• scored a career-high 26 points against West Virginia, connecting on 6-of-11 threes and 6-of-6 on free throws; also had a career-best four assists.

• his 26 points tied for the fourth-most ever off the bench by a Cowboy.

• recorded 22 points, including six treys, against Tennessee Tech.

• hit six three-pointers in a game on two occasions, tied for the third-most ever by a Cowboy off the bench.

• his streak of consecutive games with a three pointer ended at 12 when he went 0-of-3 from beyond the arc at Kansas State.

• scored 17 points against sixth-ranked N.C. State, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

• scored 13 points, including three three-pointers, in his first action at the collegiate level vs UC Davis.

and we took this guy without landing smart..............

Played in all 34 games and made 12 starts … earned the team’s Hustlin’ Horns Award and the Outstanding Defensive Player honor following the season … ranked fourth on the team in steals (23) … averaged 19.6 minutes per contest during the last 19 games of the season (12.7 minutes per game in first 15 contests) … reached double figures in scoring in three games … made nine consecutive starts against Big 12 Conference opponents (from Feb. 13 vs. Iowa State through March 13 vs. TCU) … scored seven points (3-of-4 FG) in eight minutes against Coppin State (Nov. 12) … started in three consecutive games against Sam Houston State (Nov. 27), UT Arlington (Dec. 1) and No. 15/15 Georgetown (Dec. 4) … made first career start against Sam Houston State (Nov. 27), recording season highs in rebounds (six) and free throws made (5-of-7) in 26 minutes … dished out three assists in 11 minutes against No. 15/15 Georgetown (Dec. 4) at the Jimmy V Classic … set a season high in assists (four) at Iowa State (Jan. 12) … grabbed five rebounds with three steals in 26 minutes at West Virginia (Feb. 4) … came off the bench to set season highs in points (13) and minutes (35) against No. 22/24 Oklahoma State (Feb. 9) … converted 5-of-11 FG and 3-of-3 FT in the contest vs. Oklahoma State … scored 10 points in 32 minutes and blocked a pivotal shot in the final minutes of regulation during the home win against Oklahoma (Feb. 27).

He shot 33% from BTA and 37% overall, while averaging less an assist per game and that's playing on a loaded team. winner at the hs level, yes he played with one of the best players the state has produced in years. That would be like giving Lewis the credit for Madison's runs when VY was the QB.

I agree that had it really been known that you had to offer one to get both you do it, but no one except OSU offered Forte a scholarship that was also recruiting Smart, and the entire recruiting world has shocked when Smart committed to OSU.

and he's 5'11" like I'm 5'11".

Would have been the best shooter on the team last and this year.
If by best you mean FT's yes. Anywhere else on the court nope. He would have been 3rd BTA, and 5th among the G/F's last year. Both Lewis and Papaetrou were better shooters than Forte.

both are gone and replaced by what... he is avg'ing over 20 a game currently. we can agree to disagree, but the college recruiting world was not "shocked" when this went down. Trav has had guys that look and play just like phil... barnes hasnt.

He's also shooting like some ridiculous %'s that will be reduced to their mean once the sample size increases. Though I would like to know why he only got 4 minutes against Memphis and scored 0 points. Trav also doesn't have the success that Rick Barnes has, and was close to getting run out of town before he got Smart. double entendre meant.

This isn't meant as a slight to Forte, but he's a one dimensional player that needs talent around him to get his open looks as he can't create his own shot and is a black hole. He's no better than previous guards Taylor or Harris that Barnes has had, but his skills when isolated from Smart don't make him a guy that screams he needs an offer.

And we have what on our roster?

Should've had Smart (and Forte) two years ago and then Randle this past year, but the staff couldn't get it done. And I'm sure Shaunsters can think of a lot more kids that we've missed and shouldn't have over the past few years.

How good would this year's team look with those guys on it?
