I did get to talk to three good folks today and they were all convinced that Steve Patterson is going to hit a Grand Slam.

any ideas where he's leaning? I know the info seems to be on lockdown

So, Saban Harbaugh Meyer. Is Gruden a Grand Slam?

Alright Darrell

Have we come back full circle to Gruden??

We had this discussion back in October when there was initial contact but I have not heard if there has been any interest since Patterson took over.

I can guarantee that IMG/ESPN will nudge both UT and Gruden if there is mutual interest

if OB's source is right it seems like someone from Grudens camp is trying to plan the bug in Pattersons ear "Call me"

why are we so sure Gruden would be a good hire? I mean he may be a great guy, great X's and O's guy etc, but what has he actually done in College?

are we talking grand slam, like clearing the Green Monster at Fenway or popping it over a softball field fence

How is this for a "grand slam " list:

Jim Harbaugh

Nick Saban

Pete Carroll

Chip Kelly

Urban Meyer

Gruden would be a splash hire. I think he would be successful here too. He would run Oregon's offense and he develops qbs like nobody's business. His teams always had good defenses too. His work ethic is second to none IMO. As for the college remark, no real data but by comparison Pete Carroll didn't either when he went to USC from the nfl.

Grand Slam can only be Saban, Kelly, Harbaugh or Meyer.

I have a feeling Saban is really in play. Read this quote from him after being asked about the rumors again. Does it sound like he is evasive?

“I think I've already made a reaction to that,” he said. “Don't you watch ESPN? Don't you see what they put down across the bottom line? That's my reaction to it. I don't have any more reactions to it. I think it's kind of over, so why do we want to talk about that? Can we look forward? I'm looking forward. I made a commitment to the players that are here, and I'm happy to be committed to them. And I want them to make the same kind of commitment to the program and their future success.”

Gruden is a walk-off bottom of ninth World Series hire short term. Recruiting would go through the roof. Only two hires bigger than him would be Saban and Urban. They would be World Series winning grand slams.

it's not about who he's going to pick, but about confidence in the guy running the process. Patterson is a pro, which means, don't expect the type of leaks that you want to hear.
