My good buddy is working with Korn-Ferry on a project right now. The guys at Korn-Ferry told him today that there was not one Jimmy Sexton on their list.

SignUp Now!How wasn't it done the right way? They hired a committee, they all met, they made a recommendation (with the help of a search firm) and the AD made a decision. How is that not the right way? I think you mean they didn't interview all possible avenues when it comes to the coach. In that case, it's not that they didn't conduct the search the right way but rather they didn't interview the people you wanted. (which is fair, I guess.) We might never know why they didn't interview a Sexton client, but that's their reasoning. Are you saying that not 1 Sexton client was considered Korn-Ferry?IF this is true than Texas hired a crappy team to do their search. How can you not have a client of a guy who represents many of the best coaches?
Texas got played.
For those that want to move on, fair enough, you can. I dont. I want to know what happened. Not sure that info will ever come out but this is a bad job of a coaching search. Doesnt mean we didnt get a very good coach but the process was not conducted the right way.
Even if you are not Texas, If you are in the business of hiring a college coach and you dont consider one of the clients of Jimmy Sexton then you have not done your job. Texas didn't get played really.
Just because they weren't on the list for the firm to vet out doesn't mean they were discussed among the committee. I would think only those candidates that they committee and Patterson recommended would be vetted out. If Sexton is indeed as difficult to work with as some have alluded to I have no problem with this. Texas got their man. The sooner all the naysayers stop ranting about who Texas didn't consider and didn't look into and get on-board with the coach Texas hired the better off everyone will be.Even if you are not Texas, If you are in the business of hiring a college coach and you dont consider one of the clients of Jimmy Sexton then you have not done your job. Unless that had been given certain parameters to follow in their search. All we can do is assume at this point.Even if you are not Texas, If you are in the business of hiring a college coach and you dont consider one of the clients of Jimmy Sexton then you have not done your job. Period.
Sexton might be very difficult to work with and im not saying you should hire a Sexton client. What i am saying is that if Korn-Ferry did not talk about and consider a coach bc his agent is Sexton, they did not do justice to the search process. Sexton has many many clients, a few happen to be Saban, Fisher and Mora Jr.Just because they weren't on the list for the firm to vet out doesn't mean they were discussed among the committee. True, but the only reason to not consider a coach who happens to be a Sexton client is not a smart search process. Hopefully that did not happen but it would be nice to know so we dont hire this search firm again.Unless that had been given certain parameters to follow in their search. I agree with you. So did Patterson tell Korn-Ferry to not consider Sexton clients?I have worked with and been recruited by firms like korn-ferry. Search firms don't include or exclude candidates based on their own personal opinions. That is not how you stay in business. They bring forward candidates that meet the requirements set by the hiring entity. If there were none of Sexton's clients vetted that is because the requirements were set up in such a way, either intentionally or not, that eliminated them from consideration.

Fair enough. I guess I have just decided for me it's time to put the coaching search in my rear-view mirror and I want to focus on coach Strong and the future.Sexton might be very difficult to work with and im not saying you should hire a Sexton client. What i am saying is that if Korn-Ferry did not talk about and consider a coach bc his agent is Sexton, they did not do justice to the search process. Sexton has many many clients, a few happen to be Saban, Fisher and Mora Jr. I like Strong a lot but if you want to move on, move on. I dont. I want to know the process. That does not make anyone a naysayer, it makes us curious.
